      Alcohol Lucid Dream

Hey, my name is Luke i'm 19.
I often read that Drinking lessens ones ability to lucid dream so im writing this as a response. i'm a rather new Lucid Dreamer. Ive been practicing and still awaiting the Full REAL lucid dream for about 6 months now. Ive had a few short Semi-lucid dreams about once a month now and i have to say the best lucid dream i've had yet was when i got very drunk on a friday night and stayed ata mates house. As Surprising as it may seem, that was my best Lucid dream yet! i remember it as if i was awake and had Semi-Control of what happened. i was out in my front garden and flew up onto my balcony then proceeded into my house where the was an amazingly hot girl laying on my bed, i led her into the other room and unfortunately this is when i woke up!! all in all the dream lasted 5 - 10 minutes. Just wondering if anyone else has had "drunken" lucid dream experiences as i was surprised and not expecting to lucid dream that night due to being rather intoxicated before i went to sleep... look forward to hearing your comments!

      -Luke

I have had many a drunken lucid dream. It's not that you cannot have one when drunk, more that alcohol supresses your REM sleep - but then as we all know you don't only dream in REM sleep

So it was probably luck. Unless you're a special individual where alcohol increases your REM?

      Luck?

Just because alcohol suppresses REM does not mean you cannot dream/lucid dream. Just would decrease your chances.

I often find I have better dreams after a glass or two of wine...

I meant luck, because since it suppresses his REM sleep, it was luck that he got lucid in that time. I don't mean some super incredible luck, just... luck.

Alcohol usually helps me LD too, but I haven't been drunk, so small amounts may surfice.

I don't usually remember dreams from my earlier periods of REM after having some drinks, but if I get enough sleep it has a rebound effect and I seem to have epic dreams towards the end of my night's sleep. Just a good reason to spend a night at the bars with some buddies every so often, just call it research .

I don't know if I'd call it luck, drinking can help in some cases. I find drinking plenty of water before bed will help you too, reducing any level of hangover you might end up having the next morning.

Were you drinking red wine at all? I have read that the melatonin in it increases REM intensity. Haha, as it goes I have a cheap bottle of red wine opened next to me, I'm testing it out. 'caves de france', 3 quid lol.

Alcohol suppresses REM sleep in the first part of the night (2 to 3 hours).. after which the sedative effects lessen & sleep becomes shallower and disrupted.. It's during this shallow sleep you get REM rebound and you experience intense & vivid dreams ..

I find that after a night of heavy drinking I have long lucid dreams in the early morning..
