Not so great DILD
OK, well I just woke up from my second lucid dream ( my first was when I was a kid) and it was crap. I had a false awakening, and I kept trying to pull my sheets off from over my head, but I couldn't. I would pull them and pull them and they would magically reappear, not allowing me to even see my room. After trying this for what seemed like 10 minutes, I just laid there and thought "Well then, I'm dreaming." So I did the hand through hand RC, which didn't work, but I felt pretty confident that I was not awake. Then I got really excited and started thinking about what I would do. So I thought, "I want to go to the beach." Nothing happened. So I shouted out loud, "I want to go the beach!" Still nothing. So I kind of just laid there for a minute trying some other things like floating and such, none of which happened. Then I said "This sucks, I want to wake up now." And I woke up.
So yay, my first LD in years, and it sucked. Is it usually like this when you first start trying? I couldn't do any tricks whatsoever, it was just like waking life.

Good news.. you were lucid. Bad news.. it sucked! :p
Seriously, don't try to set the lucid world on fire your first few dreams.. don't try to do tricks, summon people, etc. Simply go with the flow and take it all in. Get used to what being lucid FEELS like so you can ground yourself in your dreams.. that's when the tricks/stunts can happen.
Your first few dreams simply act like a tourist in a new place.. go sightseeing and take in all the different colors and sounds. You may try to increase your vividness by declaring "increase lucidity" or "clarity now" but that would be the extent of control I would recommend for struggling dreamers.
