Thread: Sleep Paralysis: My first experience

Yeah I've never done this before...I just got home, it was early, I got up at six and it was about eight but I was still fuckin sleepy..I just walked in and fell on my bed..anyway, as I was laying there I felt my hand start to tingle and I thought oh well I must be sleeping on it wrong or something...so I move it and get comfortable again. So now about 5 seconds pass and that's it, and all the sudden I hear *beep beep beep* and then *whoosh* all the sudden I'm completely numb all over. I see some faint images, hear a few more beeps..I know what's going on too, but I'm still freaked. I can feel my heart beating, and it's beating friggin fast 'cause I'm so scared..and then I reslize I have work in a bit, I need to get up so I think I need to get up and go.. and then I hear this male voice in my head say "No, you need to be-e-e-e" I started waking myself up so the word "be" was slurred. I WAS NOT ABOUT TO LET HIM FINISH I WAS ALREADY FREAKED OUT!

Wow. Intense. I've had a few similar experiences... once, I was stuck in a nightmare loop. I could not wake up! And I kept trying! I was staying at a friend's house at the time, and his bird led me out of the dream. I could hear her tweeting and I followed her voice. I was so freaked out when I woke up. I thanked the bird profusely. Animals rock. They just know things.

Anyway, I hope you feel better. It's really freaky waking up like that.

just wondering, what state or stage of sleep was i in?

I would have thought you were in REM, or else you would not have been able to remember it so clearly.

EDIT - Does sleep paralysis occur in hypnogogic state?

Do you have to be in REM to be lucid? Can you enter REM that quickly?

Paperdoll, I've had similar experiences where a "presence" or outside influence of something/someone else's voice has been so intense and near that I've instinctively woken myself up to get away from it. This has usually happened in that state of paralysis also -It's almost as if I suddenly became aware that something or someone was trying to keep me in a particular sleepstate in order to do... who knows what... who WANTS to know what! I don't. Anyway, I think you know my particular remedy for that type of experience...

i dunno...it happened sooo fast, in a matter of seconds, i was fully paralyzed. and i was FULLY conscious too.

I've entered into REM sleep in about four seconds. I just woke up though.

you should have used it to become lucid!

also, if there is something scary, but you know youre dreaming, shouldnt you not be scared of it

I love Sleep Paralysis, LOL.
I have freaked myself out to no end with it.

I will sort of be half awake and half asleep, ussually early within 1 hour of going to bed, or within 1 hour of waking up in the morning.

I will feel my body go numb, and that HUM will be heard, I will scream, and try to move every muscle but nothing works.

I will ussually wake up within minutes, and sometimes it will return shortly after waking up, only to fight it again and then finally fall asleep.

I have learned though that its better to just let it roll, its actually very weird, but very cool to realize your sleep paralized.

Its how I induce many of my lucid dreams, although i am still very unpracticed at it, and more like instincual at inducing lucid dreams.
