Hi everyone. This is my first post on this forum. I used to have a lot of lucid dreams when I was younger so I'm not totally new at it. Now though they rarely come naturaly so I decided to sign up to this forum and learn more about them. Anyway I'll get on with the post.

I had a dream once where I was being shown around a mental hospital. I was with a group of people (maybe my school mates, not sure) being led by a doctor. All of a sudden the lights went out and I could feel everyone around me had dissapered. By this piont I knew I was dreaming but had no control. I tried to turn the lights back on by thinking but had no luck. Then I cloud see again, the light was still dim but bright enough to make out the figure stood in front of me. One of the patients must have escaped! He had long, untammed hair and a long nose. He looked in his early 20's. I distinctly remember his insane eyeslooking straight at me. He also had this menacing grin. I found out why when he put his foot in the air (he was sat on the floor) to show 4 knives inbetween his toes. I started panicking and tried to wake up but it wouldn't work. It was like it was real. I tried to close my eyes and change the dream but I could still feel that I was in the hospital and knew he was infront of me. I looked around to run but I was backed to a corner. Somehow I got the impression that he was good at throwing knives. I looked down and saw a knife on the floor. I picked it up and stared towards the man, trying to anticipate when he would attack. I knew this was my only chance so I just threw it at him as hard as I could. He caught it effortlessly with his other foot. I knew it wasn't real but at the time that wasn't helping. With nothing else I could do I just serrendered and closed my eyes. I kept waiting but he never threw it and eventualy I woke up... scared.

So there it is. I wish I could have got away from him because it was so real and I was stuck so I didn't have to worry about waking up too soon. Has anyone else ever been stuck in a dream? And if so do you know what causes it? I look forward to reading your replys and possibly similar experiences.

      Bye for now!

Next time, why don't you try and confront him? Ask him why he's being like this?

You'd be surprised at his answer. You will never know why he's so scary, but it often ends up something simple and you'll realize that your fear is a fear for nothing. By then, your dream atomsphere often changes by then.

Try that, rather than running away or trying to fight, just confront. For me, that is the best way to overcome my nightmares and I never have had them again.

Don't trust what you are seeing right now because you might be dreaming right now. Be LUCID! I repeat, be LUCID!

Thanks DM7 thats good advice. I'll try to do that next time. I didn't think of it at the time because although I was lucid I think the dream still had some control and wanted me to be there.

and I read that other post, Howetzer. Although his problem seemed to be staying asleep.

i've had similar probs. i read in 'exploring the world of lucid dreaming' by stephen laberge that your expectations are often followed through in a dream. Meaning that if you see someone who is scary and you think they are going to attack you, in a dream, they will.

He talks about different ways to deal with this happening, but the most successful one is (here comes a nice hippy rant) to project love on to the object of fear. (that's right i said project love dammit). or by simply asking the scary person/monster, are you okay? do you need me to help you with something? what do you want?

reacting in an unusual way, instead of say running away because the monster will persue, stop and change the course of the dream.

as for not being able to wake up, i've found the easiest way to wake up from a dream is to go to bed in the dream and fall asleep. btw, never fear sleep paralasis, its completely natural and healthy and harmless and will pass more quickly if you just relax.

      hope it helps!!
