Has anyone noticed any improvements in their intelligence, memory, etc since lucid dreaming? If so, how much and after how long?
No, not really, only my general quality of life and happiness.
However, certain friends of mine have become more stupid...
My memory seemed to get better once I started keeping a dream journal... so I don't think it was actually related to the LDing as much as it was recalling my dreams.
I personally have noticed a major difference. I cant quite describe it though. Its like the way I percieve things has changed...
no i dont think so but yes my friends have become stupidier lol
As with any significant Human Quest taken on between childhood and the Prime of Life, there would be the important transition points when some success is finally achieved. Such points of pride and triumph are the Rites of Passage which lead to an empowered and potent adulthood... or more significant than just physical adulthood, but which prepare the individual to be a significant and important member of his community.
Naturally, it doesn't need to be Lucid Dreaming. The completion of any challenging or noteworthy task is sufficient to render to one the confidence to take one's place in society with some aura of credibility and entitlement. I remember having learned to fly airplanes at 16. Yes, it was a child taking his place among adults, but when I did well at it, it made me feel as though I belonged. I suppose it feels about the same for the various Captains of Teams and Cheerleaders, and the Presidents and Chairmen of the various Clubs. Achievement breeds confidence.
Now, what IS confidence? Does confidence make one smarter? Faster? Prettier? Better?
Well... Yes.
But specifically regarding Lucid Dreaming, then one must examine what one is trying to achieve. For many Lucid Dreamers, they are happy if they 'control' a rabbit out of a hat, or 'control' a masturbation with a Dream Character. One can hardly stand up to lead one's Community because of some success with wet dreams. However, as an aside, I should mention that sexual confidence and Social Confidence are intertwined and related, as a young man who has had success with silver tonguing young ladies into the haystack will find himself acting with confidence in all other areas, and, likewise, a young man who has suddenly found himself successful with some important Challenges and Achievements, will then find himself able with much greater facility to talk the young ladies into the haystack.
I suppose Sex in Lucid Dreams can have positive influence on one's Real Life depending upon the mode of such sex. If one is in one's dreams going to brothels, or raping sluts in the back allies, then I can hardly expect that one's daily life will be much instructed. However, if one finds the finest young ladies of Dream Land and seduces them with charm and wit, then I suppose there could be some cross-over benefits in Real Life.
But there is a great deal more to life then Sex. Sex is only an auxillary... a sideline. I would think that the most significant and powerful achievements within Lucid Dreaming would be Spiritual. Particularly potent would be the acquisition of Spiritual Sponsership. Just think, how much greater does a person's Real Life Confidence increase if some Splendid Angel of God assures him of Support and Guidance... even of Immortality and the courage that must accompany the assurances of Eternal Life.
Materialists may scoff, but let the Materialists see all of this Spirituality as extremely powerful Psychological Symbols and Maturity Mile Stones. One is still just a child, whether grown or not, but when a Fiery Angel of God crowns one with Crown and Sceptor, then one can finally step up and start acting like an Adult.
wow you should have your own book, but yeah lucid dreaming has its ups ever since i started my dream journal that haze in my mind seems to be clearing up, because my mind is set on remembering what that thing was, so i guess lucid dreaming can help you remember or rather dream recalling and i guess achieve higher but improve your intelligence.I think thats a bit extreme.and for your friends becoming stupider mabye your becoming more aware.
I think LDing makes me appreciate waking life more and has made me want to be more active and adventurous.
Well one thing I think it has done for everyone, that they're forgetting is improving happiness! I think this is a very important change after an LD ^_^
(p.s. Can't we all try to get along, pleeease? o.O <3)
(p.p.s Oops, Taihen already said happiness )
Happiness?
Whose been made any happier. Have you seen this Page? Mostly people have used Lucid Dreaming as just another source of anxiety.
Before they worried they were not popular enough, successful enough, and that they were not getting their quota of Sex. Now they add to that the anxiety that they don't have enough Dream Control.
So who's any happier?
Im happy whenever I have one ^_^ It improves my general health in all aspects, I believe :)
i'm much happier after some of my lucid dreams leo...gives one an afterglow for a day or three. and these dreams can be "spiritual" in the sense you seem to mean, or spiritual in the sense that i fly over a landscape before swooping down to run over a body of water like a jesus lizard.
or just sticking my finger through my hand.
---
lucid dreaming has helped me synthesize waking life, entheogenic experiences, meditation, and the sleeping state into an all-inclusive state of awareness.
by that i mean, i sometimes am walking through the forest stone sober, and everything becomes...unspeakably alive and interrelated and vibrant.
whereupon i am never quite sure if i am high and just forgot, dreaming, or just "meditating" with unhindered awareness.
it doesn't matter.
i suppose in that sense lucid dreaming has helped improve my memory...in the sense i remember more often during all states that "this is only a dream...this is all a projection of my mind...i am dreaming"
I have found that I am more "in tune" with what ever is going on around me.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
you might not know it, but you are talking about GOLF.
I worked my way through College as a caddy. I've seen it. ONE GOOD SHOT is addicting. then there is the misery of a thousand lousy score cards while the 'golfer' tries to reproduce that one GOOD SHOT.
Again, look at this page. It is like a golf magazine. EVERYONE complaining of their lousy GAMES. Whining. Crying.
And then Happiness consists in finally making a shot. But was it important in the first place? Wasn't it only just a little white ball?
WHAT IS LUCID DREAMING SUPPOSE TO DO FOR YOU? Yes, achieving goals one had set for oneself will make one momentarily ... MOMENTARILY... happy. But was it worth the misery? What has been the achieved value?
Now I have said that Lucid Dreaming is intended to inform the Dream Persona of the existence and attitudes of the Waking Person, and that Lucid Dreaming helps to integrate the Waking and Dreaming Personas into one Integrated being. There is nothing HAPPY about that. It is a PURPOSE. A FUNCTION. A REASON. Something that needs to be done.
Well, then, once the Dreaming Persona is comfortable with Waking Ambitions and Aspirations, then certain things can be attempted by the Combined Persona that could never be accomplished by the Waking Persona alone. You see, the Dream World is an Open Door to the Spiritual and Astral Worlds. Yes, the OBE and Astral Projection People have been right... there is a significant overlap between Dreaming and Out of Body Work.
But poking your finger is good too.
well, i DO view my purpose in life as integrating the waking and dreaming aspects of myself into one, though i am sure we mean somewhat different things by those two labels.Quote:

however, our thoughts diverge in that i CHOOSE to remain as a function...i do not NEED to.
the REASON i remain is because i have faith in my complete self..and my name literally means "HAPPY".
so you see, i get the best of both worlds :)
perhaps...i have certainly had interesting experiences (some related with things you have said about kundalini or mantras)Quote:

if you care to share more precisely about the significant overlap between dreaming and OB work from personal experience i am all ears.
yup, only a little white ball. just like me, and you.Quote:

so i'll continue to find happiness allowing my dream and waking personas to meld themselves as they see natural in my lucid dreams....whether that means chanting while floating in a living void, communicating telepathically with a cross-legged girl, or poking my finger...
after all, i have always been just a ball of awareness, drawn this way and that.
it matters not if a little fingerpoking is had along with more "serious" pursuits...who knows-maybe the secret to the universe/self consists in precisely the act of pushing through one's palm in a lucid dream.
that could account for the general scheme of things in this universe as much as visions of angels might.
just a ball of awareness..
why should i care if i manage to "score" sainthood for a few fleeting moments, just to be a somber, joyless husk in the remaining ones?
