I had just walked in some room ready to beat the shit out of some racists people and I grabbed a bat to wait for them. I smashed a TV (it hit me, the glass that is) and waited. I was on some bed. I looked at the floor and said \"Hey, this might be a dream!\" I don't really remember when I first became lucid but I do remember being lucid. I got up and walked around exploring the room. I saw a towel hanging on the wall and tried to make it disappear, but that didn't work.
I felt like i was losing the dream, so I began spinning (which only made me dizzy, what kind of backwards trick is that? :-p). I went to the TV to confirm I really was dreaming and I remember thinking the channels were weird and off so that confirmed it for me. I went to my computer to try to communicate with one of the guys on here (the guy that had a dream for 500 years or something), not sure if it worked. I tried spinning again but got dizzy, again. I walked into another room, and lost lucidity.
Overall, it was kind of weak 'cause I couldn't do anything, but it was my longest one so far.
You really need to get beyond the myth that Lucidity confers anything approaching complete control. Look at some of these Essays on Lucid Dreaming http://www.sawka.com/spiritwatch/tableof.htm particularly Dr. Anne Faraday's "The Selling of the Senoi" which discusses the fraudulent portrayal of Lucid Dreaming as bestowing any significant Dream control... that the idea was never more than a hypothesis which never worked out, but which has been perpetuated because it hooks newbies. But you might as well forget it, if that is all you are looking for out of Lucid Dreaming.
It was interesting to find that 'Twirling' is not always effective. I found that deep and rapid breathing help me extend the duration and intensity of Lucid Dreaming.
You might try Flying out of these ordinary Dream Locations. Now, don't waste your entire Dream in Flying, but go up prepared for coming back down, but into a better and higher Dream Location. You see, Lucid Dreams are special, and what often happens is that the Dream Mind will set aside a very special Dream for those occassions when you do go Lucid. When 'twirling' does work, it often transports the Dreamer to one of these special Dream Locations, but flying will do the same thing if twirling does not work for you, only flying might take a bit longer. Unfortunately, time is critical. Although some Dreamers say that they have prolonged the time they spent in dreams, some saying they have spent years in their dreams, it really does not correlate well with anything from the reliable literatures and I can't say I honestly believe such accounts. Ordinarily you can only expect to dream for a few minutes. And, really, the most important dreams don't take very long anyway.
