      My first LD!!

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

For the last few months I've been interested and doing a lot of research and practicing on having a Lucid Dream.

Last night, I had my first LD.

I remember being in class, and I was talking to someone about lucid dreaming. I was looking at the poster on one of the walls, and closing my eyes, and looking at it again, to check to see if the words on the imageless poster would be the same. I looked a second time, and the words were different, so I checked again, and then I realized I was actually dreaming. I remember getting very excited, but told myself to control my emotions, because I didn't want to wake up. So, I decided at that moment that if I opened the door, one of my old crushes would be standing outside it, and I would see this person. As soon as I got to the door, I remember that it was getting hard to control the dream, and once I opened the door, I was in a hallway and had a strong urge to open one of the lockers, and I lost control of the dream and woke up.

Now, I do believe this was a lucid dream, because once I realized I was dreaming, I felt like I was now fully inserted into the dream. Not just a numb existance, I was actually there! If I wanted to look left, I could look left, and I wanted to get up and go out the door, and I could.

What are some ways I can practice on how to stay in control of the dream? I find it really hard, and unless I lucid dream again, I don't really know how I'd be able to practice. Anyone have any ideas?

      Thanks.

Sounds like a good first time. You did everything right. Next time you could try spinning around or rubbing your hands and shout "More Lucidity!" to gain more control and stabilization. Many people have had luck with this. Keep up the good work

WoW! Congrats and welcome to DV!
The best way to increase control is practice. I'm sure your control will improve as you have more LDs. Right now, I guess your first priority is to increase the number of LDs you have.

Ive been Lucid 4 times, Today and DAMNIT! each time I get lucid it only takes 30 seconds to a minute for me to wake up. Im kinda gettin sick of it . When I became Lucid today the first thing I thought after doing a reality check was to not let myself let it go and focus on one specific object. I tried but it was to dark to focus on anything.
Anyway, I dont think focus is the solution to my problem. The first thing I do when I do a RC is think of how to stay lucid. Well now I have a load of anti-lucid thoughts going through my head. I think I need to become distracted from these thoughts quickly. I'm guessing These negative thoughts are capable of doing some damage SO soon in an LD.
After I get things goin, Im sure I'll be just dandy. My plan for next time is to start talking to myself right away. That way I can become distracted by my words and how they sound instead of being distracted by my Negative vibes, being sent to my subconcious and being put into action.
Im glad you started this topic! You gave me a chance to find a solution to my problem . Thank you.

to Barbizzle: thanks for the tip, I'll definately have to try that.

tp Seeker: thanks, too. I've come close to having a lucid dream a couple of times, but that was first actual one. I definately need to have more and practice. I'm going to be reading through the site, and the forum to learn new information and to see what other's have had happen to them.

to StickFigure: no problem! I think that if you have negative thoughts, it subconsciously has negative impact on keeping lucidity. May instead of thinking of how to stay lucid, try not to think about a time limit, or remaining lucid at all. just concentrate on doing something like flying, or meeting someone, that way, your subconcious mind wont concentrate on lucidity, but remain on the task of dreaming.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?
