First LD (although very strange... you'll see)

Ok, first I just want to say, disregard my registration date, I've been coming here for quite some months without a single LD and only registered a few days ago.

Anyway, I just had my first one about half an hour ago. Here's the thing though, I was quite conscious while it happened in my head. I knew I was in my bed, lying there and could move myself both in the dream and in my bed.

So, here's how it went. I began to go to sleep last night with the fact that I would check my reality in the dream. Unfortunately, this was not a fact. I slept through the whole night, might have had a few dreams, though insignificant ones which I don't exactly remember. Anyway, I woke up at about eight in the morning, still kind of tired. So I decided to lie there and fall asleep if I could. I did, and had a dream, although failed to gain lucidity that time as well. When I awoke, I thought to myself, "Gee, that was odd, I should have checked my reality... *frown*". So after that, I decided to go to sleep again. This time I was fully committed to confirming my reality while I was dreaming, and I did. I won't go into detail about the dream, but it was rather strange, being my first lucid one. Here's the strange thing though: I was actually still kind of awake, as stated above... It was very odd. Maybe I should try having these LDs before eight in the morning.

If you read, thanks for reading, and thanks for having such a great site.

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your first lucid dream!

Yes, what you had was a lucid dream. Lucid dreams are defined as being conscious, or aware, while you dream. If you could feel your body in bed, then your body wasn't fully paralysed. This is because you went back to sleep after already getting eight hours of sleep, so your body was already quite rested. Your body is normally paralysed while you sleep throughout the night to prevent you from acting out your dreams. Completely normal.

Entering a dream in the way you described usually results in having far more vivid and controllable dreams, as compared to dream-induced lucid dreams in which you realize you're dreaming while dreaming. It sounds like your brought your conscious mind directly into a dream from waking state--good job!

      Hope that cleared things up,

      D

Hey, i'm new here, and i'm just getting into lucid dreaming. I've had what you've described many times, but i didn't know i was actually lucid dreaming. Usually, i'll awake after a lot of sleep, 9-10 hours, and ill fall back to sleep because i don't want to wake up yet. Then, ill have some control, but not a lot, and i do not remember any of the dreams. All i can remember is that they were desirable enough to make me want to go back to sleep again, and keep dreaming. I am going to start making a log, and i am looking forward to being able to dream lucid.
