Dream hurt me IRL?
After a fairly long, and strange dream about having one side of my jaw locked, i woke up. Now, in dream, the left side of my jaw "locked" after getting punched in the face by one of my teachers. Long story short i woke up and the left side of my jaw, where it was hit, ached like hell. Off topic slightly, i remembered this dream in near full. Took up a whole page of my dream journal  . Anyway, is this a co-incidence, or can dreams really hurt your physical body?

Dreams can't, but grinding your teeth can.

Could explain something. In dream, my "lockjaw" kept going, then i tried to get it back by moving my jaw somehow. I may've temporarily came out of SP to do this, and in turn hurt myself :o
-
Yeah, you were probably just clenching your jaw as a reaction to the dream happenings, at least that's what I'd conclude. :)
-
Or your jaw could have been sore before the dream, and the dream incorporated that feeling into the dream. Like leaving your CD player on all night and dreaming about the band.
And Aphius I LOVE that new avvy. Looks really snazzy

I don't think there necessarily had to Be any physical cause for the pain in the first place.
Pain exists in your mind. Your brain can trick you into feeling pain that has no source just like you can trick you brain into not feeling pain. Its possible she was doing something to make her jaw actually hurt, but I think it's also possible that she woke up with the pain because it was such a dominating aspect of the dream.

Her? What the hell!!?? I'm a man dammit! But good replies though, has gotten me thinking...

Lmfao. I appologize. I think I had someone else on my mind when I replied.

Nevermind, got a laugh :D

That's happened a few times to me too. In a non-lucid dream some random person through a cricket bat at me (can't remember why lol) and it hit me in the arm. When I woke up it felt like I couldn't move it, I think it must have been the way I was sleeping.
But I agree with what tsen said, its more likely a feeling such as pain during sleep can come into your dream, I remember a classic where I dreamt i was being savaged by a hungry lion, when I woke up my cat was on top of me clawing on the bed, scared the hell out of me!

I have been a dental assistant for 7 years and I know that clenching your teeth or grinding your teeth while you are asleep is very common. I actually have to wear a night guard at night because I clench so badly. So it is very possible you were doing this. It can cause your jaw to hurt like hell.

Thanks for the answers :D Thanks god it's not something worse than clenching my teeth :)

once I got punched really hard and it hurt like heck (in a dream)
when I woke up my head was lying on my desk and I was slowly slipping out my bed onto the floor out from under the sheets I must have hit my head on my desk
