I did once have a dream where a certain 'skill' became crucial. I have this one Dream Motif that goes back far -- I am the personal guard for this Young King. Well, in this one dream we were out regarding this latent and quiet Battlefield. You know, between 'Offensives' pushed by one side or the other, often Battlefields can be very peaceful, as hardened and veteran soldiers can appreciate a good rest, and would slap some new soldier on the head for even thinking of firing a shot that would disturb a good afternoon nap. I was with my Young King on such an easy going Battlefield, when I noticed off about 300 yards away some of the enemy soldiers slightly exposed from their trenches. Their rifles were shouldered and so I wasn't worried about them, but kept an eye on them just in case. Well the Young King noticed my side glances.... I had tried to be discrete, knowing what a Young Fool this King can often be. Sure enough, the King sees the Enemy, and so it must be War ( he thinks in Absolutes, and it just would not be right, somehow, to allow the Enemy to enjoy the same balmy afternoon that one's self is enjoying) and he lifts his own short barrelled carbine up, and, hardly aiming, blasts off enough shots to get their attention but without any real significant danger of harming them. Well, this put me in an awkward situation. These two enemy soldiers were unshouldering their rifles and would have commenced firing. I only had a moment to assure the safety of my King. I dropped to the edge of a trench berm and steadied my rifle sites on first one and then the other of these tiny dots of men 300 yards away. I knew that I could hit such targets leisurely on the rifle range, but here I had to aim quickly and hope a bit to luck.
Now, I have had dreams where guns jammed or shots were missed. But in this particular dream, I dropped both of those soldiers.
