If you have big concerns about demons and negative-energy-auras, you might consider following some steps that can ease your mind.
Before sleep, meditation or OBE / astral travel work.
1 - Give your spirit guide (which exists) a name; or just say "Hi, spirit guide." 
"Please protect me and guide me safely through any situations and contacts I may encounter."
2 - For more advanced "trips" and plans that involve extensive lengths out of the body and/or particular goals, you might consider something a little more intense in terms of a safety precaution.
Find a circumference where you can completely encircle your resting place. If your resting place is simply a Lazy-boy chair in the center of the living room, you won't have to go far. Most people want to encircle their entire home, so they end up walking the street, or around the edges of their property line.
If you're already good at visualization - then you're ready. If not, you need to practice focusing on simple shapes (IE; triangle inside a square) with multi-colors. Basically stare at them and on occasion begin to close your eyes and see the imprint left in your vision field. Repeat this until you can clearly see these images without any prompting at all.
Choose your route around your resting space. Invoke your spirit guide with kind words and assistance in making your body safe and your soul safe to travel.
Begin walking around your resting place and imagine a large beam of protective light emanating from your body and upward, over your resting place.
As you walk, the beam of safe light is continuing to cascade up and out of your head, into the air and bending slowly and gently until it meets (all other beams) in a brilliant mesh of silver/white light.
This meeting of beams forms an orb of protective, glowing white/silver light directly over your resting place.
(You must be able to see this image(s) very clearly in your mind's eye.
After you have gone around your resting place and covered the "walls" and "ceiling" with this magnificent shield designed for your own safety, you may do a further walk around checking for weak areas and holes that you can fix.
The orb directly over your resting place is now the fulcrum of the energy and you are free to just observe it.
Finally (if you wish) you may walk around yet again and place a "gate-keeper" at all 4 directional points. There are no limitations here. Common choices might be; tigers, gargoyles, elephants, guards, etc. Whatever makes you feel safe.
I don't like to hear about anyone experiencing fear in any way shape or form with these types of things, when it really is just a matter of taking control, and not letting go.
