When you do reality checks in waking life, after they show you that you are awake do you think something along the line "I am not dreaming"? If so, stop that. Never think about that and instead think something like "Next time i do reality check, i will be dreaming". 
Also maybe you are overthinking it after the first time it happened and it materializes in dream, if that's the case then stop worrying about it and just prepare mentally to just enjoy the experience no matter what, don't worry about waking up or length of dream or somebody waking you up like that, that's how i broke my lucid dream length dry spell in May anyways, i stopped finding ways to fix it and just went with it, i hope this helps.
