My WBTBs almost always work, but not all of the time. And I assure you, everyone can lucid dream if they work at it So all you need to do is keep practicing, soon you'll know what to do and you'll just need to keep tweaking things until you know they're perfect.
This is how I WBTB, as I said, it almost always works for me. I done one last night so I'll just tell you what I done:
I woke up after about 5 hours of sleep. (Remember that when you set your alarm, add an extra half an hour onto the time to allow you to get to sleep). I didn't actually write down any notes from my previous dream because I need to get back into dream journalling, but I recommend that you do. If you need the toilet, go AFTER you've written your dream down because moving around makes you forget your dreams for some reason.
I done a few reality checks. I waited about two minutes and done some more, asking myself whether I'm dreaming and looking around for anything out of the ordinary. I done some maths in my head (e.g. 72+72. It doesn't have to be complicated) so that my brain becomes active (or more active than it already is). If you like sudoku I've heard that's good.
Then I lay down (I hadn't actually gotten out of bed, or switch any lights on etc) in a comfortable sleeping position and repeated in my head "I will lucid dream". I really focused on the words and then I imagined myself becoming lucid in a dream. Then after about a minute of this, I stop, and allow myself to drift asleep
Pretty much I got a lucid dream in 5 minutes. It was vivid too. Experiment with different times to find the right one for you. I don't like staying up long, so I get up after 5hours (so I can fall asleep quickly) and only stay up for about 5 minutes. Change these times around. I remember when I first started trying WBTBs I got up after 6 hours and stayed up for 15 minutes, but it didn't work well because I couldn't get to sleep.
So keep it up, add some maths questions to make your brain more alert. Maybe you could try a WILD every so often too
Oh and by the way; stress kills lucid dreams. So if you don't get one in a while, don't worry about it. If you start to stress about them, take a break - maybe a week off or something. I done that and got like 5 lucids in two days! Dunno what happened there but it was awesome.
Good luck
