      Light and Sound Device

      Hi,

I have mentioned repeatedly in my dream journal that I use a light / sound device to help me meditate directly into a WILD. I have also had quite a few people asking me about that. I don't by any means consider myself an expert on the topic, but here is what I do and my responses to some of the questions that have been asked:

      What I Do
I have a Zen Master combination CD player and light / sound machine. There are many other options on the market. Many of them are just the light machine alone. You would provide your own music if you choose. Google it or check it out on eBay. Search for Mind Machine, as it does more things than induce lucid dreams. I used to burn custom CD's for the Zen Master until the CD player portion crapped out on me (after extensive use). Now I make a custom playlist on my iPod and use that instead.

I select either a soothing selection of music or a selection of the isochronic tones (free at iso-tones.com). There are also some lucid and dream recall aids here: Dream Aid MP3's. This is on the Dreamviews site. I usually set mine for about an hour so I have plenty of time to get to sleep. I start the program when I first go to sleep. It lets me start the night with a meditation induced WILD and also allows me to relax and get to sleep quicker. I would think if you wake up in the night and want to do a WBTB that it would work there, too.

While the light / sound program is running I focus on the colors flashing on the inside of my eyelids while keeping my mind focused on what I want to do or where I want to go or who I want to meet. If I can hold onto those thoughts that serves both to keep me conscious into the dream state and to direct me to the correct place. Next thing I know... I'm in a WILD. Unfortunately these WILD's aren't as vivid as a DILD, but I am much better at doing them so I can be more consistent. Unless someone actually tells me I'm dreaming I can be pretty thick at seeing a dream sign!

      FAQ
Q: Isn't morning a better time to WILD? are you doing this at night?
A: I think morning would be a great time to do it if you wake up and can go back to sleep. I do it at night when I go to bed because when I wake up at night I am lucky to make myself get up enough to jot down a couple of notes about my dreams let along activate my light / sound machine.

Q: Also, headphones. Is it hard to sleep with headphones or did you get used to it? I tried this morning and i found it a distraction.
A: I use the in-ear buds. I find that much more comfortable than normal headphones. If that still bothers you, is there a way to put one speaker on each side of your bed or the stereo right next to the bed to try to simulate stereo? Of course stereo isn't needed for soothing music, and I'm not sure about the iso-tones.

Q: Have you ever tried without the cd? Just the light part?
A: I have never tried this. For me the music is a huge part of the relaxation. It might work for some people, though. The lights themselves are supposed to stimulate the brainwaves for different effects to include meditation and lucid dreaming. Anyone who wants to try it, let us know how it works for you!

I don't remember any of the other questions right now. If you have one, go ahead and post here and I will answer if I can. If you have information to contribute, that is welcome, too! Good luck with those lucid dreams!

      Dear Raven Knight,
      hi there,
thanks for taking the time to reply,
i appreciate it. i hope your fight got resolved so you can go back to having fun with shared dreams. and other things, too.
you and Waking Nomad have opened many peoples' minds and inspired them... and myself included. so, many of us will be glad to see that is where your creative energy may wish to go further, if that is your own pleasure...

the link to the mp3s doesn't work, but i do look forward to reading more about the isochronic tones. i have really enjoyed learning about the binaural beats - so - I'm very interested in the other tones too. So I find it very interesting to hear what you are doing.

I also enjoyed hearing that you do this in the evening. Anything that can open my mind to what's possible is so appreciated. Everyone says you can't do this at night, yet here you are doing this at night. Wow!

if you had to do it over again, or, alternately, had unlimited resources, would you buy the same light/sound machine? or do you have any idea what else is out there?

Anyway these are just random musings... I guess they talk about all this stuff on DV forums. I am pretty new to all of this. yay for me that I even found out about this. I consider myself blessed. This is such a beautiful addition to my life.

Enjoy your day and your evening, in your dreams. I hope to drop by your dream journal as soon as possible, and of course, you're certainly welcome to drop by mine, although, since I'm new, it's just starting to get beyond "slightly interesting".

I have learned a lot from both you and Waking Nomad. I think learning by inspiration, watching and copying is sometimes the best way of all.

right now I am learning about how to create storylines. I think it may be something that just evolves. But I am realizing that with my lucid dreams, they have been pretty random up until now. I'm inviting my lucid dream space to be one where something interesting begins to take hold and has a life of its own. that way there will be a storyline without my trying to force the issue. It seems if I did that, it wouldn't really count. What I'm guessing is that the lucid dream world has to co-create with the "awake" you. That's what it looks like to me, looking in from the outside, at this point.

      warmly,

For my part it is. I am promising myself that I will not reply the next time someone gives me a rude response. I just hope I can keep that promise!

D'Oh! I would delete the link if I was allowed to edit my earlier post... Thanks for the report!

If money was no object, I would probably have bought one of those really expensive lucid dream aid devices that sends signals into your dreams. I had a NovaDreamer for a while but it broke. And when I looked at that there was an even more expensive one I would like to have bought but... Not enough cash!

Yeah, I think about it alot while I'm awake, too. Of course that might be because I have a bit of an obsessive personality... Good luck with the lucid dreams!
