Caffeine to increase success rate?

I was going to post a long thing about this but really I just have one question.
Has anyone tried or heard of this or is it just a fluke?

I sort of stumbled on the fact that a cup of coffee before bed time or nap time greatly increases the success rate for Lucid Dreams, Sleep Paralysis and Recall regardless of how much sleep I get. I tend to be a heavy sleeper and the caffeine seems to negate that. Maybe it's just me.

I was never really one for using lucid aids until now. Nothing else ever worked.

wow there buddy the only place caffein is gonna get you is into staring at the ceiling all night. I'll actually try avoiding it as it leads to some or no sleep at all when it takes effect. Caffein should be considered sleep's enemy. I were you, i would try not to get close to it during the night.:) good luck though

I'd like to differ. Sometimes a cup of coffee before bed CAN calm you and put you to sleep, and the caffeine may or may not give you a heightened sense of awareness. It worked for me sometimes (when I put forth a concerted effort to LD every night), but honestly, hot tea works best.

Man I am so hooked on caffine. Not a night goes by that I am not still under its influance at bedtime. I have my share of lucid dreams, so caffine will not prevent them assuming you can sleep. Slightly disturbed sleep (like caffine may cause) seems to make me more likely to recall dreams. Sleep-aids from the drug store keep me from dreaming. So maybe you have something. Experiment away. I think it cant hurt at all.

Yeah, a little caffine will keep your mind more awake. That will give you better recall, and an over all better chance for Lucid Dreaming.

One cup will not keep me up. Im too addicted. Besides that I am usually able to force myself to sleep when I want assuming there not much on my mind.

What kind of tea. herbal? Caffeinated? I was drinking Hibiscus a while back to relax me but it never seemed to effect my dreams.

Thanks. That helps to confirm that it was the caffeine and not something else.

Coffee can either keep me from sleep or relax me and allow me to drift asleep with a very clear mind.

I'll have to look into this again. If it turns out Coffee is keeping me more often awake than that it calmes me I can add some hashis to the coffee. Like melt soft hashis through coffee. This would counter the wakefullness, but synergise with the mental clearity. Well we should experiment with coffee together. How bout tonight?

Ok from what I've heard, you shouldnt drink it right before bed. Drink some coffee like 2 hours before you go to sleep. At this point, you should be coming off the caffine, but it still affects your brain for hours. So your not all wired, but you have more brain activity going on. I dont like coffee so I've never tried it. I dont think there is enough caffine in pop to have a great effect either.

I used to take caffeine before bed to help induce ld's until i read that it makes u act out your dreams and can be very dangerous. Do u ever notice that sometimes u wake up and ur pillows and covers are all over the place and u wake up and think wtf? It's cause u have been acting out your dream, i always used to wonder why i would be spitting in a dream then i would wake up to find myself spitting over my sheets, or i would wake up continuing a conversation i was just having in a dream, or wake up with a swollen jaw (must have headbutted the wall or something). As soon as i stopped taking caffeine the symptoms stopped so no more caffeine for me anymore and i advise u don't take any before bed.

I dont do drugs. Meletonin might help? I was planning to give coffee a shot tonight. I guess I'll let you know the results.

I think tonight I will wait about an hour after the coffee to go to bed. The last time I tried coffee I was unable to rest well. It was an afternoon nap and I was well rested already though. I did fall asleep but I woke too frequently with fragmented nonsense for dreams.

I used to wake up to some stranger situations than that. But that was pre-puberty. I dont have this problem anymore and caffine does not have that kind of effect on me.

Well all of you are reluctant to touch Cafeïne again because it seems to distort sleep. However this is exacly why I'm interrested in it. The lucid State is in fact also a distorted type of sleep. It's unusual for your Mind to be awake while at the same time in a deep immersive dreamstate. It IS a deviant type of sleep: it's the reason Lucid Dreaming is so very very interresting and special.

Alcohol does the same thing, but also surpresses REM-sleep alot so that wouldn't be advised.

I allready had 2 cups of coffee today. I'm drinking my 3d cup of coffee and try and sleep on it. Who's in?

I find caffiene can be useful in maintaining that Slight Conciousness (from many dreams when i've thought "Im Dreaming! S**t, time to wake up i gotta meet Bob!" or similar =P

What if we put caffeine in a slow melting capsule, so that it starts to effect while we are already asleep?
I thought about this idea sometimes ago and made a post about it, but I couldn't find any delayed release empty capsules for sale.
What I thought is trying to cover caffeine or coffee with something that takes a while to digest, like possibly chocolate or dried fruit, and swallow that whole when doing WBTB, but I didn't get around to try that yet.

Drink coffee when your mind is tired.
In other words, drink it when you're trying to LD with a tecnique that require you to wake up after sleeping and go back to sleep after a period of time or if you are too sleepy.

Try to drink it 25 minutes before you go to bed because coffee takes 45 minutes to react.

If you drink it too early,then you will certainly be having trouble to sleep since your mind are already awake.

45 minutes? With me it takes just one minute for the full effect.

Same for me. I drink a cup of coffee and my Mind immediately is releaved of any sluggishness and cloudyness.

Well I think we're going to have to run a couple of experiments on this one. I say we do it together and a couple of nights.

I bet this would work well with WBTB. Last night was kind of turned into that. However I slept for only an hour and a half, woke for one hour, downed a cup and went straight to bed. I woke from my lucid 3 hours later. I don't know. This does require more experimenting. Unfortunately I am out of coffee tonight and I'm too tired to care. I only got 5 hours sleep last night. Funny, I always thought you had to get more sleep to have a lucid.

YES dodobird, like i said,
it all depends on the tecnique that you are using to LD,
If you are DILD'ing than, it might not work well since your mind are usually awake at that point.

Try drinking it while attempting LD with the WBTB technique or WILD since it require you to wake up feeling groggy and tired.

OK, I want to join the experiment. I think it has a potential because coffee has a very strong effect on enhancing my cognitive functions.
but how do we delay the effect?
If I will drink a cup of coffee before bedtime, or while doing WBTB, I will not be able to fall asleep.

Could we try taking benadryl (allergy pills) which make you tired and a shot of espresso?

How about this:

Sleep deprivation + WBTB + Coffee;

Stay awake longer than usual. Hours longer and go to bed when you're truely exausted due to sleep deprivation: You're bound to wake up very messed up and groggy. In this state it's easy to fall back asleep within seconds after awakening. What if you make some coffee the night before, cool it down to Ice-coffee in a bottle next to your bed, wake up seriously messed up and groggy, down all the coffee and go back to sleep?

I'm going to try this very very soon. I think tomorrow morning, since tonight I'll be making some artwork with a friend and I'll probably stay up late doing so. I haven't smoked any cannabis in a while so I'm currently experiencing a massive REM-rebound with significantly increased DreamRecall. Anyone in for this one?

I dont like sleep deprivation in the name of lucid dreaming. It seems to extreame for me but go ahead and tell us what happens.

I prefer a little to drink it the Irish way.
Coffee+Liqour...should help you fall asleep and awake at the same time.

Irish mix everything with alcohol. We still have some irish coffee-liquor in the house, but I hardly ever drink so when I do I easily get inebriated and probably too much.
I'd rather stick with hashis to counter the wakefullness of coffee.

And those saying they don't do drugs:
Then you certainly shouldn't be drinking coffee. And melatonin: it's not gunna help; had it for years and it's all placebo.

mmm, sorry for the nudge, but I'd appreciate if someone tell me what they think about my idea of covering caffeine with something to delay it's digestion, and taking it when doing WBTB.

I think it can have a great potential, if in the middle of a dream you will suddenly have a caffeine boost, that will stimulate cognitive functions, and make you realize you are dreaming.

What do you think?

Perhaps a gelaline cap filled with caffeine surrounded by about 5 to 8 other, larger gelatine capsules to slow the melting and absorbtion process? And what about a Caffeïne Ointment? Doesn't skinabsorption take longer to reach effect than oral ingestion?

The oinment might not work well, because it will bring a gradual absorbtion of the Caffeïne. Well actauly this might be worth a try as well, but what I'm thinking of in this particular hipothesis, is that you will need a fast boost to really elevate your awareness above the theshold beyond which you will be "smart" enough to realize that the reality of the dream is odd. I think even one second of much heightened awareness might be enough to make you lucid.

The nested capsules idea is brilliant. It's even possible to test how many capsules will be needed:
You put something colorful in the capsules, and put them in warm acidic fluid, which is supposed to simulate the stomach, and see how long it takes for the color to apear in the fluid. Acid that you can buy has a standard PH level, which can be changed by adding something with high PH such as some soaps.
well I have a chemist friend so I can ask him if it's easy to conduct this experiment, or else we can simply try taking nested capsules with different number of layers and see how long it takes for the energy rush to start.

Yeah. Isn't Gelatin easy to make? If you make it yourself you could first boil it liquid and then pour it into different casts with different thickness.

All you need to make is half a capsule and then fit 2 together with Caffeïne inside.

I know you can get ready for use gelatin capsules from smartshop azarius, but I don't know what that would cost.

hmm I think I'm thinking about a different appraoch than that, heres an example of what I mean: Say you find that it takes you 30 minutes for caffein stored inside 3 nested capsules to feel the stimulating effect. You wake up after say five and a half hours of sleep, take the capsule and go back to sleep. It's not certain but there is good chance that the caffein hit you while you are dreaming. And If it wakes you up during the dream, you can reduce the amount of caffeine in the capsule, and try again.

I may sound stupid here but is taking capsules like taking tablets?
If so im gutted, as I cant take tablets. at all.

It think it's quite cheap, and so is cellulose capsules, which I prefer because they are not made from animals.

It's easier to swallow than tablets because they have a smooth surface, and also they don't melt quickly in your mouth like tablets, so if you have trouble swallowing you can try again and again.

I may however, give it a try out of curiosity. It may actually be more effective if it kicks in during a REM cycle.

I am a little concerned about how often we should try the coffee. It would seem like our bodies would adjust to it after a while and may require more caffeine or have little to no effect. I think I will lay off it for a few nights seeing how I drank a cup last night and had no recall. Of course I could have just been way too tired.

I will, but I won't be having any THC for a while now that I'm enjoying my REM-rebound.

I have another interresting thing I might try that might work in the way coffee does.
I have Yopo seeds. These contain DMT and a number of related compounds. When properly prepared with lime and a bit of water the main active compound is 5CaO-DMT which is a very very powerfull hallucinogen. Insufflated these ground seeds deliver radical altered perception, hallucinations of incredible realism and an incredible physical rush sensation.

However many Native American tribes also used to add these seeds to their beer. This beer is called Chicha and doesn't have a Hallucinogenic effect but a Stimulating effect instead. I might try drinking some Yopo-tea some day soon. I'm interrested what the stimulating effect will do to my Dreaming.

The problem with drinking a cup of coffee is that it may be difficult to fall alseep.

Yes, for this to work it should not be tried everyday, unless if you avoid drinking any other caffein.

I'm not really a coffee person, but I'm quite sensitive to caffeine. A few nights ago I tried a WBTB and took a few sips of Coke, then tried to WILD. :'( I was awake for nearly 2 1/2 hours! And if I drink it after say 7pm I can't get to sleep for ages... but I guess I could try it again in extreme moderation for a wbtb

Probably the reason that you are sensitive to caffeine, is because you don't drink coffee regularly.

Yeah, I don't really like coffee but I LOVE the smell. Although, I think it's probably better that I don't drink coffee regularly. All my friends are addicted :rolleyes:

This topic about coffee rings a bell in my head.. I remember something, but then again I don't. Anyways I'll join the experiment and report back tomorrow. (that is if I could get my hands on coffee tonight)

Actually this makes sense to me! About a month or so ago I gave up drinking coffee and my recall/LDs have been shockingly bad!!!

I don't know if there's any correlation between the two, but would be interested to see if I started drinking again (in the name of science :D) if my recall and LDs would improve again!

Aha, in the name of science:D..

I'm posting back on my results of caffeine usage for LD. Doesn't seem to make any difference for me though. No (better) recall, etc.

why do you have to make your own tablets just buy some no-dose
