Thread: Anyone Else Doing The Watch Chime Thing?

I've been doing the digital watch beep method for quite some time now, probably about 3 weeks, every time it chimes (on the hour, every hour) I read the "Am I Dreaming?" card in my pocket, onliest problem is... I NEVER hear anything in my dreams.. ever! Of course when I've got the binaural beats going in my headphones I'm never going to hear my watch beeping, right? So... I recorded my watch beep (couldn't find one anywhere on the net) amplified it a bunch and I'm going to paste it in between my 2 favorite lucidity .mp3's. Maybe THEN I'll hear it.

Feel free to help yourselves to the file, it's not very big but it may help if you've already started RC'ing to your watch beep AND you still want the headphones on at night. It's a 10 second file with a beep every 2 seconds. Hopefully It'll land on a 90 minute interval, I put two 45 minute-ish files on either side of it then "loop all" on the CD player.

I did it for a year - the beeping watch thing.

It worked at first... then it became a habit. As soon as I started doing it automatically, it stopped working.

I intend to start again in a couple days - took a month off to "reset" things. The card idea is a good one...

I got the card idea from the Lucid Dreaming In 7 Days course (Thompson), there's a lot of good ideas in there. Sadly I didn't get the "guaranteed" lucid dream in 7 days, but then I've been at this endeavor for a LONG-ASS time & I'm not expecting instant results, I'm a little more realistic than that. So I tried the watch-beep .mp3 last night... still no dice. I'm going to try it again today at a higher volume and see if that helps. I'll be WBTB'ing in an hour or two, so we'll see how that goes.

Allrighty then... still no beep in my dream, but then I didn't remember any dreams from this aft's nap. I did, however, have the volume WAY up and it didn't seem to effect my ability to sleep, so that's good. I'll try again tonight when I'm more likely to get in some dreams. Also, and here's the Pièce de résistance (insert dirty french laugh here) I made my own custom reality check card.. very sweet. Help yourself, anyone who wants one!

I've heard of the watch thing, but I don't want to RC as an automatic habit (when I did that, I did have a tendency to RC in my dreams, and not notice when it failed&#33. I usually RC based on the situation.

Though I can imagine listening to that file, and in your dream...

I had a mindblowingly good idea about a month ago, it came to me when thinking of doing the digi watch beep thingy.
I thought wouldn't it be better if it was a vibration, like what they have in mobile phones these days, that way it would better enter your dream - as familliar sounds are quickly ignored by the brain.
I found that there is a make of digital watch made for deaf people that uses vibration instead of beeping, so I bought one and have been wearing it for the last month, unfortunately I'm too deep a sleeper and I have so far not noticed it while dreaming. Might work for others though.

That's a GREAT idea, seems to me I might have a better chance with that than I'm having with the beep, no matter how loud I turn it up (even to the point of giving myself a headache the other night) I still NEVER hear the cockadoody beep! I'm going to give it a shot.
