Pitch Darkness?

Does pitch Darkness induse lucid dreams? I have a feeling it does, but I myself, am uncomfortable in the dark. What are your thoughts?

There really isnt a need to be afraid of the darkness, I myself actually like it being dark And if you are scared of things being pitch black, I say do it and you might have a nightmare... i find nightmares fun and interesting, especially when u get lucid in nightmare mode

i'm afraid of the dark some what too. its not that i'm afraid, but just uneasy in the dark, because i feel so vulnerable. anyway, i dont think pitch darkness will help with lucid dreams that much if at all. but i know that if there is a ton of light on, that will effect your recall. give the pitch blackness a try. i mean, once you got your eyes closed it the same thing right let me know what happens.

I used to really fear the dark since in my youth I had ALOT of very disturbing nightmares all including intense darkness & helplessness. I guess for years my Mind kind of associated the Dark with teh intense fear and helplessness-feelig I experienced in those nightmares. Now I actually like the dark. The best is pitchblack. It gives most way to my imagination. Helps me get to sleep faster. Maybe if I can darken my bedroom so that it is still Pitchblack in the morning, it may help my Dream Recall since Light awakens the Mind and I want to slowly awaken from dreams for a better chance of remembering them.

Yer its esyer to wild in the dark... because if your eyes open a bit it dosent anoyed you... I found that i was in my dark as room and there was this green light that flased every seound or two and i like started at it.. and everything went into an even more black but the light started to chnage shapes and all the thigns it lit up 4 that sound would mould to gether in this trippy green glow... I feel vulnerable in the dark too... but only when im thinking of Lucid Dreaming... otherise I dont even notise it... dose anyone know why that is?

That's a good question. I think most of my Lucid Dreams don't occur when it's pitch dark. Usually if I Nap in the afternoon and I don't actually close my blinds Im still able to have Lucid Dreams. Im not sure that pitch darkness or any particular setting would increase the chances of lucid dreaming, however if you sleep in pitch darkness and some one flashes a bright light at you your chances of lucidity increases.

For sleep, pitchdarkness does miracles. For Lucid Dreaming I prefer sleeping with a small light on. It usually makes my dreams more aware, and more visually detailed.

It's pitchdark so your eyes get 0 Visual Stimuli, You sit in a bath precicely at skintemperature so you get 0 touch-stimuli, you wear earpulgs or a completely sound-proof set of headphones so you'll get 0 Auditory Stimuli. If you lay there for a long time, a couple of hours, your Dreaming Mind, just like a Dream, Starts forming it's own Stimuli. Hypnagogic Hallucinations such as ''the great white Light'' and ''the Falling Sensation'' may occur. And allthough this has not been fully scientifically proven (yet) I am positive that DMT produced in the Pineal Gland of our brains plays a Crucial Role in this Phenomenon and in Dreaming; Which, if you ask me, is basically the same. I've been looking for a meditative/Scientific/Psychological way of Inducing the Natural DreamState + it's hallucinations Fast and Deliberately in an Artifical Method in which I want to reproduce the Conditions of Dreaming Sleep. I was initially thinking more in the Direction of Hypnosis and Meditation-techniques, but This Topic has brought me to the Idea to Involve some Sensory Deprivation too. I can use Earplugs and A sleeping mask that totally blocks out light. That way I'll get 0 Visual and Auditory Stimuli that can Distract me as I try to reach Deep Dreaming States of Mind with possible help of some Physical Relaxation techniques and Hypnotic/Meditative Trance induction Technique. Now I need to figure out a way to block out as much Skin/Touch-Stimuli without using a SkinTemperature Bath (Unfortunately I don't have a bathtub). Something else that numbs the Skin or Prevents External Stimuli such as Temperature, Touching surfaces..etc from causing Nerve Stimuli to the Brain... Anyone?

[/b] I've noticed an increase in HI's when drifting off to sleep while wearing a sleep mask.
