Luci - Advanced Lucid Dream Inducer - Real or fake? I'd really like your opinions!

Okay, there's a kickstarter going on for this product that supposedly is able to 'wake up' your brain during REM sleep by measuring your brain waves and sending an audio signal to you through ear buds saying "This is a dream, take control"
I originally pledged 150$ to get this product when it came in production, but recent development in the comments section has made me doubt the validity of the company and thereby temporarily cancelled my donation.

Does this sound realistic to you?
I'm desperate to be able to lucid dream (though not desperate enough to throw 150$ out the window and fund scammers)
I've only had three lucid dreams in my lifetime, or two and a half, as the third time it happened when I fell asleep during lunch time at school, so I spent more time trying to wake myself up than actually enjoying the experience.

Please tell me what you think.

Needless to say, you would still have to do a lot of work if the product did work. You still have to do a lot reality checks and affirmation.
And even if it did work, it's still slightly a scam since they are using the human want to do things without having to try, ie false advertising.

Better to just learn how to do it yourself, it's free and powerful when you do it right.

I think it works.

According to their tests (taken 6 persons who never had any lucid dream in their whole life), the success rate was about 80% on the latest prototype: that's right, 80% of the nights, the participants wearing the device had at least one lucid dream. And we're talking about people that had none their entire life.

You just have to trust them, that's what I did, and I try to be as active as possible on the comment section of the Kickstarter campaign, because I truly think this will be a wonderful device. :)

Also illmad, about the validity of GXP, they offered a lot of evidence backing their authenticity, so they really are who they say they are.

Yet, multiple of these devices have been released in the last 20 years. The concept itself is old and over-used. We precisely know the success rates, and frankly their own tests aren't exactly reliable. What they are making probably works in theory, but less so in practice as it still requires a large amount of work to become lucid even with this device.
There is nothing wrong with being skeptical in a controversial product such as this one, especially considering the price. Until they can back up their claims with multiple outside independent statements, we should remain weary.

I am one of them so I'll report back as soon as I can. :)

Though, to be clear: we still can doubt the product, not the people behind it. They proved wrong every claim hinting at them being a scam as a company.

Well, the people behind it are the ones who claim that all of the six people who tested Luci had never had lucid dreams before, but did have lucid dreams with this device, and if it turns out their product doesn't work as described, then it's definitely not the fault of the customer.

Depending on what happens the following few remaining days of their kickstarter I MIGHT chip in for early access, but so far I'll probably wait this one out. Depending on reviews when it hits the market I'll buy it then instead despite the increased price.


True, I am looking for an easy solution to achieve lucid dreaming. I've tried the reality checks and several other practice/preparation methods before, but I always forget to do them, and I haven't had a dream I remember for years. I've recently started taking vitamin pills containing vitamins that are said to increase dream intensity before I go to bed, but all that's happened so far is me waking up early in the morning with an uncomfortable feeling of having a mild nightmare, though remembering nothing of it.

I'm a little skeptical about Luci, only because I suspect that they have underestimated two things; 1) the effort required to make a reliable device that detects REM and 2) A reliable way of giving people just enough awareness to not simply wake them up.
I have the Zeo headband and use ZILD, which can do exactly what Luci claims to do (interrupt REM with a sound activation or recording), and for me it always seems to just wake me up or do nothing.

I know that the Zeo developers took several years to get the detecting REM bit right. The Luci prototype looks very "early days".

I'm not saying it won't work, but they have a long way to go.

I don't consider 6 people to be enough of a sample size to really draw a conclusion from. The 6 people who tested the device also probably had a lot of individual guidance as to exactly how to properly use the device. Even if the device works, the failure rate for the average user is likely to be a lot higher because they'll mostly be figuring it out on their own. They wouldn't get the sort of one-on-one attention that the initial testers did. Also keep in mind that despite the fact that none of the 6 had ever had a lucid dream, it's easy to cherry-pick 6 testers that are much more likely to have a positive result (such as people who were highly suggestible to begin with). Sort of the same way stage hypnosis works.

Try it out on 60 or 100 randomly selected people and post the results, and then maybe I'll give it another glance.

This is very true indeed.
The real prototype testing will come later, as indicated on their campaign page. I guess they are not allowed right now to test the prototypes on a large number of people, because it is very controlled and thus require a lot of money, they want to keep these tests to have on the final product.

We just have to wait and see, I hope it works as well as they claim though. And even if it's not 80% success rate, even half of that, 40% could be a very very nice addition to the current method we have to induce lucid dreaming. At least, for a beginner, being able to have a lucid dream 40% of his nights would be a dream come true, no pun-intended. ;)

With the Luci you will get ZILCH.
