I have recently bought a rem dreamer. It'll soon arrive, but i'm quite curious... Do any of you have really good experiences with it? I have heard that it increases your recall. Is it right? :)
Yeah! The REM dreamer is awesome and works well. I got my first short lucid with it on the first night I slept with it. Probably due to placebo though. It does increase your dream recall in a sense it might often wake you up... But you still must keep a dream journal!
Before it arrives, you can start practicing for it. Start making a list of all kinds of bright light sources and reflections. Reflection from a windows, sun shines/blinks between trees on a hot summer day, someone blinks a flashlight at you... Etc.
Start to associate every such event with the phrase like "a light source.. It might be the REM dreamer, am I dreaming? *reality check*"
Truly question your current reality, because it could be a dream and you are just few feet away from becoming lucid.
If you start doing this now, you will be well prepared for the REM dreamer when it finally comes. :)
When I use REM dreamer, I usually get dreams where I wear the dreamer in public.. And occasionally see bright red light blinking at my eyes (in no disguise). But it is different for everyone.
I'm about to start a REM dreamer journal in dreamviews to get back on lucid dreaming after a long break. Check it out :)
Sounds great! I have always wanted to try it out. Sounds like a really good idea practicing for it :) I have heard that it can see when you become lucid, so it turns off the flashes.. hehe it must be one of the bigger inventions in lucid dreaming :D
yeah it does... in a way. when we all dream, our eyes move just like we move them in the dream (sleep paralysis doesn't restrict eye-movement). What you can do with the REM-dreamer is to activate it's TWC feature (Two Way Control). When it detects that you have started a REM cycle it blinks brighter and brighter in 30second intervals and you can do this... (quoting from the REM-dreamer booklet)
"When cues become intensive enough to reach your dreaming mind and a lucid dream starts, move your eyes in your dream alternately from top to bottom and bottom to top. Take about 1 second to move your eyes in your dream from top to bottom and back up, as though you were watching a rubber ball bounce slowly. Move your eyes in that way for 5-6 seconds or more...
...At that time the REM-dreamer will recognize your eye movement and stops generating cues...
It's an interesting feature, but I personally haven't yet tested it yet.
Oh and the REM-dreamer also has a "reality test" button, but I find the "try to breath trough closed nose" method/test more reliable :)
haha yeah i use that reality check too. I find it really reliable and it can be used everywhere :D I can't wait to test it out and thanks for your well informed answers :) god i can't wait... I think my lucid dream rate might rise :D happy dreams ;)
