Beyond apple juice: beans and other choline rich foods

For the past couple weeks I've been eating quite a lot of rice. It's easy, doesn't take too much time to put it in a rice cooker and press "go" button. This is quite a change from my regular diet that involved milk products, pastas, and wheat/rye bread along with fruits.

To add variety to the flavor, I purchased some beans - kidney beans, white beans and peas. I've been adding half a cup (140g) of each to my rice experiments for the past week.

The results so far are pretty interesting. I have experienced more clarity and better dream recall, even without a dream journal! There has been 1 natural DILD during that time.

This made me think of what is it in my diet that contributed to that. I found this great site about foods:

Both white and kidney beans have vitamin B6 and Choline:
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Beans, white, mature seeds, cooked, boiled, without salt

Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Beans, kidney, all types, mature seeds, cooked, boiled, without salt

While rice also has quite a lot of amino acids and vitamin B6
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Rice, brown, medium-grain, cooked

Today I combined rice, beans and apples, raisins and cooked it with some apple juice. I'll see how that affects my lucidity.

One thing is for certain: this is a much better way to get choline than taking stomach turning pills. I'm surprised at how good rice can taste if it has some variety of flavor s added to it.

      What do you guys think?

I think whatever will work will work. I can't really say anything on the matter, other than good luck and post the results.

One thing I would add is that I myself have been eating a full apple just before I go to be and sleep. I have done this twice, and my dreams have increased in length and vividness. This can only be caused by the apple, even if placebo, which I doubt, as placebo can't really effect dreams in the way the apple has.

I'm going to continue with the apple for as long as it works.
I suppose one thing I would ask you is what is it in the apple that contributes to dreams?

I dont really know what would contribute to dreams. Looking at it's nutritional profile, it seems that it is rather poor nutrition wise. And it doesn't have much Vitamin B6 or Choline.

Could be a placebo or sugar crash effect. At least we are not smoking banana peels to become lucid

EH..... well it has pumped up my dreams length. I think I will keep up with the apples for as long as they have an effect. Maybe apples coupled with WILD or something will yield results.

According to Wikipedia, apart from Kidney beans, hardboiled egg, raw beef liver (ewww), Codfish, Milk, Soy Lecithin, Caulifower, Spinach, Wheat Germ and Tofu are also very rich in Choline.

Would be a nice experiment to cook a meal with hardboiled eggs, codfish, soy lecithin, wheat germ, Kidneybeans, Rice and Tofu to see how dreams re affected the following night(s).

Basically all the shit I'm never, ever going to be eating is rich in Choline. I think I'll stick to vitamins for Choline for now because I'm not really the organic eater, if you know what I mean. That's pretty cool though. I'm glad a different diet is working for your dreaming.

Here are the preliminary results of the experiment:

A bowl of rice, cooked with kidney beans, raisins, apple and 1.5 cups of apple juice. 1 glass of apple juice. Taken about an hour before bed.

I also took melatonin 3mg before bed.
Attached is a lucid dreaming app sleep graph. Time asleep is wrong - I've been using test setup. Dreams are triangles. I think 2 of the circles are also dreams.

Overall, I felt more vividness, and even before 1 hour and 30 min into sleep I had some dreamlike experiences (weird). As the night progressed, the dreams intensified, and towards the end of the night I was waking up from multiple dream fragments pretty often.

Overall, the dream recall (without dream journal) is up to 5-7 dreams per night from 1-3 normally, which is really cool. Maybe there's something to that apple juice claim. I will repeat the experiment today

Couldn't really make sense of the graph, but I get you. Just keep at it. Myself, I'm going to keep onto the apples before bed. It's into it's 4th night of apple+dreams, and it's still going well, really long dreams.

Another experiment, same setup this time 5 dreams in 8 hours, without a dream journal. Very vivid!

Okay, well 2 apples right before bed seem to really pump up my dream content. They are more vivid and comprehensible. Sure, there are the same old few random "along for the ride" ones, but the main thing is that last night I had twice as many dreams as I normally do, a total of 6 and 2 fragments.

This has to be because of the apples, as I am doing nothing else. I don't think they will help me become lucid however, just increase the vividness of my dreams. A few more nights with two apples a night should give conclusive results. 2 apples nearly made me lucid a few nights ago, I mean I was so close. Whats to say it wasn't them, and that it won't happen again?

The effect does not seem to stay for long. After stopping eating apples and drinking juice before bed, the recall is back to 0-3 dreams per night...

So does that prove the apple stuff works then? Just because the effects are lost fast doesn't mean the whole idea is worthless.

I ate some apple sauce and for 2 days the dreams were more vivid, there was even a lucid dream so vivid that I disbelieved it shortly after it started :/

The method is effective, yet it seems to not be sustainable for long

Have you tried supplementing choline? It would be cool to try it a few times to see if you notice a difference. Maybe use it as something to compare to.

I got galantamine and choline supplement pills, those give me stomach ache and insomnia. So the effect is definitely better than the pill. I sleep well and dream more while eating rice or apple products...

For me it seems to have taken a slump. Well when I say a slump, I mean my recall has slumped, but my dream length and clarity has gone up. I dream solid dreams for what seems like 15 straight minutes, with dialog and scenes in order, but when I wake up I forget a few of them. Only one from last night can I remember well. Maybe it's because I waited til late to write them down.
