Thread: Remembering stuff from really early childhood

This is so weird. I can remember being 'Potty Trained' and remember pre-school vividly. Worse yet, I have terrible, TERRIBLE, short term memory. This is very, very strange.

My memory from when I was three is not vivid at all. I only have it I think because I thought of it every so often whenever I think of that time. I wonder if this will ever happen to me.

My first memory is from when I was four. It was a dream. I have it recorded somewhere I think...if I can't find it I'll bother to write it out.

The earliest memory I can think of is when I was prob 3- 4 (I don't recall my brother being born yet). Dad had put these short 4x4 stumps in the ground on the side of my house so I could stand on them if I needed to go to the bathroom, and didn't think I'd make it inside. I also remember another one when my brother was days old, and still had his umbilical cord attached (hadn't fallen off yet), so I was 4 then, too

I do recall tiny bits of preschool as well

I think we all got memories from then, you just need something to trigger the memory. Kind of like what happened to you.

I'm not sure which happened first but I remember getting bit by my old dog, and a day at pre-school. I hope it was a day at pre-school cause i don't want my first memory to be bitten by a dog

I doubt many people have a memory of having their nappy changed, lol.

My earliest I think was of hearing the alarm go off and waking up in my cot crying. I was face-down and I was just lying there, like I didn't have the ability to do anything other than cry. I was scared by the loud noise, I knew it was harmless but I didn't like it anyway. I remember the teddy-bear pattern on the mattress. Then I remember my mum picking me up and carrying me out the room.

Mum said it was strange because I could normally stand up in my cot by time I was about 10 months. So I must have been really small if I couldn't do anything other than cry. Either that or I was still half-asleep and wasn't sure what to do. Anyway, it was probably about 2 years old, I can't see it being before then.

I have one memory of being in my cribb and two of being in my playpen. I remember a lady I didn't really know getting on my nerves by talking that condescending baby talk to me. I was cool with my parents talking baby talk to me because they knew how to do it the right way.

My first memory was when I was about 3 years old, just moved in to the house we'd live in for 7 years. The living room had wood floors, so it wasn't carpeted yet, and my dad, my sister and I were sitting in the empty kitchen eating cooked fish sticks.

The fishy smell and taste... it keeps the memory vivid.

Yeah, no diaper change memories. I have one memory from about 18mo old, another from around 2yrs, and then reasonably consistent memory from age 3-4 onwards.

Taking a bath in a very dimly lit room is a vivid memory, as well as laying on the tile floor in our back room. I was like 1 or a bit less at the time.

I remembered when I was three years old that we got home, and all the chairs were placed on top of the dining room table. I couldn't understand why. Then we was ushered outside and into the car. I got to sit in the middle of my brother and sister on the back seat. My sister waved at the house and told us to say goodbye to it. So I waved and said goodbye to the house and we drove off. The house was on the driver's side as we left.

This was in Pretoria, South-Africa as we moved out to another house.

Another memory I have is of me crawling, then being placed on a couch between my sister and brother again. My dad was taking photos of us. Strange thing is, the only photos I have seen so far with that same couch was me being about a year old.
