Well now, looky looky...
27th among 2-percenters. :chuckle:
Tell me why shouldn't people of ages 13-14 not be allowed on the internet? Cause their are 35 year olds less mature than people of those ages? This kind of offends me but I don't care.
I don't actually think that 13-14 year olds shouldn't be allowed on the internet, but it's important not to confuse behavioral maturity and the maturity that comes from the experience gained as people age. A good example of how this disparity in experience can have serious negative impacts on people that young is all the cases of young teenagers committing suicide as a result of online harassment. The difference those years of experience and even the difference in brain development makes leads to a real and significant difference in ability to cope with these kinds of things and avoid making decisions with permanent or, at the very least, long-lasting consequences.
It's not about people of "ages 13-14". We don't discriminate based on age or anything else. But there is a rule called COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule), which is about kids younger than 13.
"COPPA imposes certain requirements on operators of websites or online services directed to children under 13 years of age, and on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age."
The owners of this forum are following this rule, it's nothing personal. It also has nothing to do about person's maturity level. But as snoop pointed out, there is plenty of reasons why young children should be limited in their access to some online places.
But this is off-topic, so if anyone is interested in discussing this, feel free to open a thread in Extended discussion forum.
I'm 3000 something years old. :P And very young at heart! Thank you:D
34, which seems very old for this forum... :whyohwhy:
Whippersnapper! :sageous:
I'm 14, turning 15. I started LDing when I was just turning 11 & joined this forum when I was 13. I consider myself lucky to have found this interesting world already at such a young age:) It was really nice to see from the poll how this forum is used by people of many ages, even thought young people seem to make up the majority.
I'm pretty sure I must have posted here before. But I'm currently 48 as of June 1st 2019. In a lot of ways I still feel like the teenager I always have been. But I have also picked up some old man habits as well. Such as falling asleep too easy and wanting to wake up ridiculously early in the morning. Like 1:00am 2:00am and enjoy the early quiet hours.
Netflix and coffee at 2:00am and knowing it's your day off and have all day to chill is bliss.
I'm still a baby in the business of dreaming. ;)
