At work yesterday, a young stranger walked right in and handed me a giftbox.
"Merry Christmas" she said.

"For me?" I asked, "But why?"
She looked about as confused as me by that and said, "Just because. It's Christmas!"

Doofus me, all I could think of was to thank her and wish her a happy holiday.

She was out the door before I could even process what had happened.
She didn't even buy anything, just came in with the sole purpose of giving a gift to a complete stranger.

Inside was a candy cane, some popcorn, some hot cocoa mix, and a 10$ gift card, that I plan to use to provide a gift for someone else I think. The opportunity to give just one more gift this year feels even better than receiving one.

That little girl probably didn't even realize how much she had really gifted me. But you could tell she was happy to do it.

I've wanted to do something like this for strangers the last few years actually, never have yet though. For someone would do it for me first, talk about an unexpected delight! Must incorporate this into my holiday traditions for sure.

And if that isn't cute enough, she also was given the gift of adopting an actual penguin for Christmas, because she loves them so much. I wonder if the photo they sent her of said baby penguin is the same photo they send everyone who adopts one? Either way the thing is simply too cute for words.

Also, yesterday my friend and coworker surprised me with the most precious gift!

I was seriously flabbergasted.
I asked her why would she do such a thing, and she said because "people don't do nice things for other people enough any more". And I can honestly say she does more for other people than many. She is daily making so many people smile and laugh, just steady brightening days left and right, probably without even realizing it. One of my favourite quotes of hers is "thank every fuckin body" because that's how big this woman's heart is.

Customers have told her that her name doesn't suit her personality. So we asked the very next customer what they thought her name should be, and the lady thought a second and responded "Lola" which is PERFECT so Imma call her Lola from now on. =}

The person who originally made the point also then renamed me too, and her first choice was Vanilla, to which I recall I said something about apples. She then changed it to Cinnamon. Because my face is always blushing, she said. Dunno if I could pull off such a spicy name though...

Beween these four bowls, the coffee mug, and the three-animal-dish (all of which were gifted to me), AND the two plates I couldn't resist buying? The owl theme is now set firmly in place.

Some days when I'm feeling particularly lost or troubled, I pick up this book, close my eyes, and just open it to whatever page my hands stop on.

Hershey's with candy corn? I don't recall ever seeing that. My favorite use to be the mint cookie one. Haven't seen that one in a while. The dark chocolate one is really good too.

For the first time in... a long time, I feel like I'm taking control over my life. I'm actively going after a job. I took the FCE (First Certificate in English) in December and my results were AMAZING, so I feel more confident about everything... PLUS, it looks awesome on my CV.

I dunno. Maybe I'll get my stuff together this year and everything will finally work out.
