To make a "true" 3d image, yes, you have to take the photos from two slightly different perspectives. But you can still align the same photo twice and give it a 3d effect. Maybe not truly 3d, but it will appear slightly more 3d than the one image. It's really just for fun, not to make the image actually pop out. To do that, it gets slightly more complicated!

I love stereograms! I just think it's fascinating what one can do with a simple 2D picture... I can't help but wonder how someone actually came up with the idea to put two identical images side by side and diverge the eyes.

I used to not be able to do these, either. I just didn't grasp the concept, and one time I was in my optometrist's office and he had a few of these Magic Eye books and I decided to give it a shot again and managed to do it! Now it comes fairly easily for most images.

Actually, you can see stereograms either by converging (crossing) the eyes and diverging (relaxing) the eyes and you will see the opposite image. Traditionally you diverge the eyes, but if you manage to cross your eyes and see the image, what usually would pop out at you is sunk into the image. I have a hard time crossing my eyes with stereograms, but I've managed it and it's interesting... at least to me.

How much would you have to cross your eyes to see the image (keep the images on top of each other, directly side by side or one slightly above the other).

My eyes aren't seeing anything... but they're extremely tired and pretty useless right now lol

      **Edit**
Shift, is the second pic of what looks like the Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, actually dogs looking upward?

I don't understand. Is the whole picture the magic part, or is it a snippet of the picture? Is what I'm looking for large or small? Someone take one of these and put lines around it.

Hey, like I said- tired may be better!

Spoiler for answers to the images I posted:

What you'll see is that a chunk of the image will literally appear to be three dimensional and popping out of your screen. Generally, you won't be able to see it at all unless you can adjust your eyes. O showed it really well http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...0&postcount=21 . Those gray images show the 3d, but they'll be overlaid by the texture of the picture you can see normally.

*BAH! I totally suck at these lol
I see 4 perfect poodles looking upwards and to the left- each with a paw on the ground through the piles of leaves they're peeking out from

When I get tired, my eyes become extremely dry and itchy, which causes me to blink more frequently, which upsets the whole process just a tad

      For Shift's:

Spoiler for Answers for those that I could see::

I'd suggest that those who have a hard time with the magic eye thing take a look at some of the ones Shift posted. A couple of them are really easy. Look at the one that has Jack Sparrow's picture on it; relax your eyes as if you're looking into a void, and Jack will eventually pop out at you. That was probably the easiest one for me to see.

I think my screen is too big. With some of the pics, I can see repeated images of the illusion, but never a SINGLE image.

For me the soupline is actually very easy and very, very well done, I guess because of the overlap with the textures that keeps it so clean.

For those ones that you can see that are 3d, but you aren't quite there yet, I find that very closely inspecting what you can see in the 3d and focusing on the part that is closest to you usually snaps them into view.

Above the penguins it says "Save us!" or something along those lines.

I do see the soup line, easily, but what's hidden are the actual words "The Great Depression", above the heads of the guys in the soup line.

Those ones are a bit tougher, I think generally because they are larger than what you usually see on a stereogram- try to back up a bit further away than you have been trying and see if that helps. You'll notice a lot of stereograms actually have circles or objects that are there to help you view them in 3d- you should be doing the same thing to see both of these types of 3d images. Try to find a stereogram that you can see easily, one with the circles. As you're making the image become 3d, watch what happens with the circles- they should move toward one another and overlap. This is exactly what you want to do when you have two images beside one another like in the picture you posted.

      These are amazing!

It took me a good 20 minutes to get them working, but after the first few the rest are easy.

      Keep em coming

Wow I just figured these out and now I can see them all. All you have to do is pick two similar patterns/objects, look at the space between them, and cross your eyes slowy to where they will automatically come into focus as they overlap.
