When you're in the process of being attacked obviously a voilent response is an acceptable one. It doesn't solve the overall problem but you may be able to get out of that immediate situation. No one here is proposing waging some kind of war.

The police are always right, even if they aren't. Agression in self-defence will help your well-being in the short term, but not the problem of police aggression in the long-term. If you really wanted to make change to this situation you should make a media/political push: try to publicise all the incidents to show that it is an institutional problem, contact the relevant associations (for gay rights, the rights of ethnic minorities e.t.c) with a dossier, contact politicians, newspapers, television channels. If you fight back (regardless of whether this is justifiable or not), against the police, you will just end up on one of those cop shows like "street crime USA", or "world's dumbest criminals".

The two cases are not exclusive. She may've had surgery, but that doesn't mean to say she wasn't born transgendered; AFAIK transexualism is commonly caused by a congenital difference in the brain, so that the brain is in some ways female but the body is male (or vice versa).

Yea Identity got it right on the nose, you don't have to have a sex change to be transgendered, you just have to realise if you feel right in your body or not. It's like a brain issue really, but it effects your body, especially when you don't like it.
