WTF flower magnet

Hello,

so I just found this set of short 2-inch magnet metal rods that I had lying around for 2 years without touching.
One set was perfectly fine.
But the other had like... stuff coming out of it. It looked like a brush! or a flower. Or mold from bacteria. Very soft, like many many little short hairs. I tested some things... sometimes when i touched it with other magnets or touched it on the other side of the rod, it actually started growing. WTF. And then parts started dissipating into gas when I came closer with other magnets.

So WTF is this, I learned nothing about this in school. It's just a usual magnet, stored in a usual environment. What happened?

We like to call those things "molds" or fungi of sorts.

Pictures would be awesome. Possibly just little sediment from your ceiling fell down and formed what looked like a flower out of bits of iron or something... doesn't explain growth or movement though...

I can't see the video (why the hell would you put it on anything other than like, youtube or photobucket :P), but it just looks like magnetic shavings. Which is not all that special.
