      Tips for staying awake

While dreaming and getting a good night's sleep can be a sublime experience, especially after a long, tiring day, I'm sure most of us are occasionally faced with obligations that require us to go without this indulgence for days on end.

I'm a bit of a procrasinator myself, so I've had my fair share of terrible sleepless nights, devoted to finishing research or term papers for the next day. After almost 48 straight hours of exhaustion, I often find myself collapsing into the nearest bed or couch as soon as I get home from school.

For staying up all night, I find that shining a harmlessly bright desk lamp around fifteen inches away from my face while playing some soft music helps a lot, and keeps me alert the whole time. For the day ahead, a cup of coffee or a few bites of chocolate helps me last until I get home that evening.

What are your tried and tested methods for staying up all night?

(I'm not saying that sleep deprivation is a healthy and advisable thing...I'm just asking for tips on how to stay up whenever the need arises )
If I could wake up in a different place, at a different time, could I wake up as a different person?

Sometimes some vigorous exercise late, or before bedtime can make it difficult to sleep.

Stress. < --- Not the best way. If you don't have it, don't try to acquire it. Albeit, if you did have it you would not likely be asking this question.

I couldn't agree more. Nothing beats stress/worry/anxiousness in keeping me awake.

Coffee (lots of it for fun fun), mental tasks that you can engage with and enjoy (a crossword, whatever), fast music...

It's mornings that I struggle with for tiredness. You get to a point at night where you decide you aren't sleeping and that's that, but mornings are just bitches that won't leave you alone.
