Well. Here's mine, in hopes that I'm not going at this alone, this week.

My Rock Rendition of Fur Elise

It's three tracks: The drum track, the lead guitar and rhythm guitar.

It's not exactly perfect, but I have to get started on an art project, so I'm going to leave it as is. I think it turned out alright.

Awesome stuff, O! I finally got to listen to it, in fact I'm listening now even. I love how the you did it; the drum track goes perfectly with the guitar, and it is extremely well played to my ear.

      Keep it up!

I love this.. it almost has a "middle eastern" flavor to it!

That was awesome. I wasn't sure about it at first, it took a while to get going, but wow! Awesome stuff . What did you use to put it together?

I had my first guitar lesson today, incidentally. Been teaching myself for a couple of years, but I thought I might as well get some lessons since I can get them for free. There might be some major stuff I'm doing wrong.

      Thanks, Clairity and Toaster!
      (And Cow )

Toaster: All I used was Audacity and my KORG drum machine. I let the drum machine play and did the lead guitar part over it, then I did the rhythm guitar on top of that, and saved it all as a wave file.

Free lessons would be the shit. I'm basically stuck with getting what I can off of the internet. I think I'm doing ok, though, for being self taught, so far.

I'd really like to get this Guitar Wars thing back up and running, though, so I hope to get some more DV guitarists involved. It's great for practice, if nothing else.

Yeah, I agree, and I'm sorry to see this thread dying, but I've been so busy with school (trying to deal with graduation, prom, scholarships, work, etc.) that I haven't had much time to do any of this. I've been basically running around with my head cut off.

Good job on the Fur Elise, by the way - that was dope.

Yeah. I was trying to get it re-started, a little while back, but it didn't look like we were going to have enough participation. If we can actually get it up and running again, though, I'm down.

I dunno. I was never really good at the whole planning bit. Haha. I just like to try and do the challenges that came up. I'd definitely like to get started, though. Does anyone have any ideas for a first event?

I'd be down for soloing to another backingtrack. Different genre though.

Hm, I totally forgot about this. Maybe I can FINALLY upload something that I've made...

Does anybody else here have Guitar Pro? I use it to write a lot of my stuff, and I might post some of it here. It's in midi, but it's good enough...

Aha, knew it was a matter of time before this thread would kick in again. I'll try to come back more often to check on any progress.

Any ideas on style, technique, etc? I'll throw this one out there in hopes to get the pot stirring:

      Harmonizing exercise.
      - Composition constructed entirely by playing only two notes at a time.
      - Combinations can utilize any two strings at once (single notes allowed to add color or in transitions)
      - Notes may be separated by any size interval but MUST break from the 'power chord' or 1st and 5th interval position.
      - Combinations can be either played in one sitting, or layering with tracks (like them old 80's metal solos).

This sounds good to me. I actually just downloaded a BUNCH of backing tracks (some from actual songs, and some just general progressions in different styles) that we can use. I think it would be a nice, easy way to get this whole thing going again.

Nah, don't have Guitar Pro. As long as it plays, I'd be glad to hear what you've got.

This actually might be a little too advanced for me right now. If there is one thing I certainly don't have down, it's theory. I mean, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot, and I'm sure I could put something together and have it sound somewhat decent, but I would definitely go into it feeling that I'm at a disadvantage because the only thing I know about chords and harmonizing notes is very VERY basic.

Here is one of the backing tracks. I really like this one, and it's a lot different than the other contest tasks we've done. How about a little improv session to this?

Ok..well...how about...just to get things started...

...everyone do a cover song of their choice? One track, with or without background music? That way, it gives everyone the freedom to do what they are most comfortable with, and song choice will probably be just as important to those voting.

      Yes, no?

Fuck that, I'm definately making something to go with the backing track you provided - I'm listening to it now and I can visualize something cool coming out of this.

I've been working 5-6 days a week, 8+ hour days, so things have been extremely busy for me. I'm not working this Saturday so I should be able to record on Friday. Sound good?

Nice. We'll make entries due by Saturday night. If we've got some takers, we can start working on another project for next week. I'm sure we've all been pretty busy, so we can stretch out the event time, if we do a more difficult task, to give people a chance to get some play time in.

Anyone else want in on this one?

yes you guys should definately get this going again. I honestly don't think I'm good enough to participate at the moment, but it's a lot of fun to hear what you guys come up with, plus it motivates me to practice more

Having issues getting that downloaded - wonder if it's blocked by my firewall here at work. I'll try it when I get home.

I MIGHT be going out tonight, and no plans for tomorrow (yah, pathetic, I know...) so maybe I'll just cozy up with my guitar and a few glasses of wine and pull something together.

Well I was gonna do something electric, but it looks like I've busted my last input wire. Maybe I can do the acoustic thing... might not fit as well though.

      PS. Downloaded fine for me.

Hmm. I can try to put it on putfile for you. But you would have to stream it and copy the audio to something else, cause you can't download from putfile.

      ARGH! I fail.

Well, not really - I just ended up going out both nights (shows you were MY priorities are )

But hey, has anyone submitted anything yet? Doesn't look like it. I'll see if I remember to try and download that file again tonight. If not I'll just submit the most recent piece I was working on (if anything just to get some feedback).
