Oh c'mon, Howie! You are hailed in legend and song.

As for me... I still need to see how you are going to work this. You're aware that I have some additional extenuating circumstances going on in my life at the moment. Making the time to even do a simple recording in the next couple weeks might be challenging.

Great to see some more interest, CB your in!

Howie, come on, it'll be fun

pj - yeah, i understand the situation at the moment, thats why i was thinking of leaving this thing until your back in action. Its no problems, it just gives some time for this to be planned out a little better since i think it needs a bit of work.

Demerzel - Hmmm, i don't know, it would be cool to include all musicianship, but i get the impression that we would get quite a lot of biased votes when it comes to voting, you see many people will probably prefer what they are hearing to what they are seeing. And you can apply that to other instruments as well, if a clarinet player was in and up against like 5 guitarists, i can see the votes again been quite biased, you can do a lot more with a guitar than a clarinet, i know because i used to play the clarinet for 6 years, but then i quit

Maybe if we did something separate for music in general in which the submissions are based purely on musical talent, not on how good it sounds, after all, we can learn a good song, but it doesn't necessarily make it good does it? Let me know what you think to a general music competition sort of thing and if people support it enough we can go for it as a separate thing.

Oh, and you guys, for the guitar showdown, i had the idea that each week we have the showdown, post ourselves on Friday, and let voting go through until Sunday. As for picking the style, i thought maybe everyone could pick their favorite style each week and everyone else has to adapt to it and play something at their best in that style. It then rotates each week based on other peoples favorite styles, i thought it may add a bit of variety to it.

      What are your thoughts?

Man that's a lot of praise for knowing a few power chords!

I'll tell you what. T Joe is on vacation at the moment, but he is one hell of a guitar player. Throw him a PM LS.

Sorry i haven't replied to this, i just wanted to see how many more people would become interested.

      So we have...

      Me
      Carousoul
      Oneironaut
      pj
      CB
      ranma
      b12
      Howie (pending)
      TJ (pending)

Well, i think thats a pretty good setup of people. I'll create a PM now for you all and send it, i think we can do a trial run of this to see how it would work before hand.

Okay, so i'll send the details of what style we will be doing first and when the deadline is to come up with the piece. I think this trial will include those of us that are able to play as of now, and then future ones we can include the members who are incapacitated currently. After all its only a trial to make sure everything works out.

Is this okay with you guys?

      Cool with me.

What kinds of styles are we doing? All the major ones (rock, blues, jazz, metal, country, etc) or some random ones too? I don't really have an example of random ones, but i'm sure someone can think of something. Lol.

Ok, I think a cover track would be good. Just picking any song you'd like to cover and submit a video - doesn't matter what genre. You could have the real song playing in the background, if you want to, or not.

Any opposition to this or other ideas?

And good to have you on board, guitarboy.

I'm in. I suck at covers, but I can work something out.

If anybody else is into jazz, maybe we could all do the same standard. Maybe summertime or blue bossa. Just make 2 tracks one with chords, one melody and solo.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

I would like to join in on the cover track, too, if I find the time ^^ I made a cover of Guns N' Roses knocking on heavens door a pretty long time ago, but the guitar was out of tune, and I think I could get the tone a bit better So this would be an excellent time to try that

Nice! Good to see some more participants showing up.

      Ok, so far we have:

      Pastulio
      Me
      guitarboy
      stonedape
      SomeDreamer

The consensus seems to be all for the cover assignment, so we'll go with that. These events are usually given a week, so I will open the voting polls either Friday or Saturday. Anyone else who wants to join in, before that time, is welcome to.

I don't know too much about jazz, unfortunately, stonedape. I plan on getting into a bit more, in the future, though. Perhaps we can do a jazz-related task soon.

I wasn't planning on joining in, but this afternoon I found myself bored and caffeinated in my room so I decided to record a cover of "Nothing Better" by The Postal Service. The song was written as a duet with the guy singing some lines and the girl singing others, but if you read the lyrics you can probably tell which lines are supposed to be sung by the girl. Quality-wise I am overall fairly pleased with this, except that my guitar was overloading the mic a little bit and I didn't want to do another take, so there is some mild clipping throughout much of the track. Anyway, enjoy.
