Yah I was thinking it should be something that is somewhat straight forward, so it could be up to different interpretations, but also have either somekind of twist or have it change at some point, just a little anyways.

How about we submit two, versions - something simple and straight, and maybe something with a different time measure? It would be nice to get something that even the beginners can hammer out a few notes as well (it's not just competition, it's pushing limits to learn, folks!).

I'll give a go as well on assembling something. I'll PM you, Oneironaut, and we can choose what kind of beats might complement each other. Anyone else interested you're welcome to join in!

I guess I could fix us a drum track? Easy. I'll try something out as well

So, do the two riffs have to sound the same? Could you do a riff in 4/4, then put it into 7/8 or something?

You can change the riff around however you like, as long as it conforms to the beat(s).

Here's a basic one that I threw together with the KORG.

I may do a little more complex one with Fruity Loops, if we don't choose a definite one to use, before I get started.

      Besides me? Lucid Seeker.

I haven't got the time right now Oneironaut, but I'll have a look at your drumsample when I get back home from school (which should only be in 2-3 hours)

Here's one that I cooked up in Fruity Loops. It's got a few more changes and stuff in it. It's probably the one I'm going to use, unless someone else comes with one of their own.

I like 2 more, I'm not the type for beatbox-esque drumsamples.

When does the challenge start/end? Because then I'll know how much time I have to fetch meself one of them drumtracks (and how to organize my time between dad / mum (divorced)).

I read back over the last couple pages and am still unclear on the concept this week. I MIGHT have a couple hours this afternoon to do something and would love to participate if it works out.

Nice job O! Sorry I haven't gotten up to speed on my end - I go a little bit sidetracked with weekend 'stuff' and well...

I do like the submissions though! Does anyone feel we need more to choose from, or should we go with those two? I'd probably choose #2 myself. Question: how do you download from that site? I tried right-clicking but nothing happens.

      Ahem...

If somebody will fill me in on the details, I'd be happy to host any backing tracks that anybody wants to send me.

I'll be out much of the afternoon, but back by evening.

I'm glad it's not just me. For some reason I can't download either of them. Nothing happens. Spent two hours trying and still nothing.

Shit. Completely my fault. I forgot that you can't DL from putfile. I usually just use Audacity, and I can record the audio and save it.

But you can DL it from here:

      http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3C089TXD

      Just enter the three-letter code.

[Edit: Oh, and why don't we set the deadline for Friday? Polling will open either Friday Night or Sunday Morning (U.S.)]

I says I need over 8 hours at my connection speed (dial-up) and anyway it keeps crashing on me with a "connection to the server has been reset" message. It's such a huge file for dial-up download. Unless I can get an mp3 of this I'll have to sit out this week, I suppose.

Either that or zip it and attach it to a PM?

Friday deadline might work for me. I probably won't have the time until Wednesday, but that should still give me time to do something.

Any singing allowed this week? I ask because what I'm doing has turned into a song, and I'd like to try some singing if that's allowed?

As long as it's your voice!

LOL, of course it's allowed - I don't think it's ever been prohibited.

Okay.. I've come to the point where I feel I can't do much more with this, without stripping it right out and redoing the drum track, and rearranging the verse, chorus and middle eight.. in fact, redoing it from scratch.

It's very much a work in progress, and I resisted the impulse to do any soloing.

The bass sounds horrible because it is a six-string with the pitch altered.

Guitar is an Indie FDL Special > GK 250ML > PC. Mike is an EV N/D767a.

      So.. FWIW, here it is:

      Thank you!

I've recovered from this flu enough to maybe give this a go tonight. Got the track downloaded.

I like it! You're right about the bass being kind of rough, but the rhythm guitar, vocals and lyrics are great.

Cheers O! It's still very much a work in progress.. needs completely stripping out and starting from scratch.. but I think it's got possibilities.

BTW I slowed the tempo down to 104 bpm.. having just read the details of the task again, I think I may have bent the laws a little?
