Living Forever ( next 25 years )

If we all live for 1000 years and the only way to really die is kill yourself.. won't that weed more stupid people out of society? Also, the children that are born and raised will be done so under strict regulation. They will be given to the people that can best raise them. Future looks bright, IMO. Oh, and his arguments make sense. but, how are we supposed to do a cleanup at the cellular level?

I saw a documentary on channel 4 about this guy - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1006866/ It was a while back and I think it showed how he had some psychological issues to make him want to live forever in the first place..... If I remember he also smokes! Pretty Hypocritical. However, I do believe and agree with what he says. And I would love to live forever.

This brings out this interesting philosophical question: in a 1000 years, what is more just, to have 1 person live 1000 years, or 13 different people to live 76 years each ( 13*76=988) ?

This reminds me of the selfish people who pay lots to get theirself frozen so in the future they can be unfrozen and brought back to life, now this will never happen as their cells turn to mush as water expands in the cell causing irrepairable damage.

I think he means that, if someone lived for 1000 years, then due to birth control methods there wouldn't be all the generations of normal lifespan humans that would have lived in that 1000 years. Its confusing but I think I understand what he's saying. dodobird- but its just a extended lifespan, eventually those people will get their chance to live anyway, for 1000 years. Unless of course humans have an indefinite lifespan. Interesting question...

Huh , what do you mean ? I will try to explain better. Lets say that there is a cure that lets you live 1000 years. Now, the world will quickly get filled with people so it will be necessary to control births. So in the time that one human lived, for 1000 years, then 13 humans could have lived, one after the other, if the life span was only 76 years. To make sure this is clear I will give an analogy of a video game. Lets say only 20 people can play this game at the same time. And they play it for 1 hours. After they finish playing, another 20 people can play in their place. So In 10 hours, 10*20=200 people can enjoy this game. Now lets say you can play the game for 10 hours instead of 1 hour. If this is the case, In 10 hours, only 20 players can enjoy the game. To explain the analogy: The game is life, 20 players who can play at the same time is the maximum population of humans who can live at the same time on earth ( 10 billions or so ) the 1 hour game is the 75 years human life span. the 10 hours game is the 1000 years human life span. I hope you see what I mean now.

Aside from the fact it'd get boring knowing nearly everything there is to know (trust me, you WILL know everything after 2000 years of living and having nothing better to do than just gaining knowledge), it isn't even WORTH it as long as we don't get to colonize on other plants, for the space will run out VERY quickly.

In 2000 years of living you probably would forget things. And in 2000 years I think its almost certain that humans will be able to colonize other planets. Plus you could just kll yourself if its not worth living. You won't know if you dont try anyway.

Come on, do you actually think people pay lots of money, just to get turned into exploded biomass? Just like with organs, you can make the cells change their liquids into something else, that does not expand. Also, extending life is not rubbish. It is very possible, we just have yet to find the correct technology.
