      I second that.

I mean, I love Capoeira, and I think it's a beautiful style, but "Better" than the styles you mentioned? You're going to have to explain that one, or I'm going to tell you how wrong you are.

I've been training in Muay Thai for the last 6 months. I love sparring even if I drop my hands too much and get popped in the face a lot. Oh well I'm improving.

I don't really believe in soft arts such as Aikido for practical self defense because the techniques are never practiced against a resisting opponent. Nor do I believe in Kung Fu because it requires so many complicated and subtle movements to complete a technique.

I want to eventually train in boxing, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I think that combined with Muay Thai, these arts will make me a well rounded fighter. They are all more sport oriented but I think most of the skills transfer over into self defense situations and live sparring is more important than learning crippling techniques.

I respect capoeira for what it is, but in my opinion it sucks as a martial art unless your opponent is also using capoeira.
At least once every person should have to run for his life, to teach him that milk doesn't come from the market, safety doesn't come from policemen, and news isn't something that happens to other people.

Well, just to explain things a bit.

By "better" I mean a more complex, cohesive, meaninful and beautiful art style. I do not mean to make a hierarchy of fights, I just want to say how much I praise Capoeira for being a fight/dance made by African slaves to keep their culture alive and to defend themselves. Nowadays, new fighting styles are born each minute. People seem to forget a bit what a martial art really is. It's not only to defend yourself and to show off, it's self-discipline, determination, culture, inner development, and above all else, a sport. For those and other reasons, I say Capoeira is pretty much more meaningful than most martial arts there are out there nowadays.

So you praise it's artistic value, but lets face it, you won't win many street fights with Capoeira ...

You wish. My cousins all do it, and many of them have had their fingers and ribs broken by the attacks. I know I would easily lose to them in a fight, not only because they fight capoeira, but because of the strength they have due to it. But anyway, Capoeira is not about street fighting, as I said previously.

I didn't think that existed other than in Naruto. Odd.

*is like new due to lack of post although has had this account for a decent while now*

      Hello.

I am a student of Shorin Do Kenpo. It is a style consisting of various fighting arts: Jujutsu, Hapkido, Shodakon, and Karate. Eh, I am meh for explanations.
It's base is Okinawan Kenpo, so that is a clue.

I have been doing it for four years and I am recently a first degree blackbelt.

It's much of a fighting art, but great emphasis is put on self-defense techniques, which can pretty much get you out of any situation.

It's a combination of hard and soft styles. It's a very circular style. Think Kung-fu, but less flashy and smaller circles. Practical.

For me, aikido and defensive swordsmanship. Practiced in karate (which I hate) and tae kwon do. Tried hap ki do for a bit but did not like the style.

      Anyone else into kendo..?

I've done Shotokan Karate, got to green belt. But that was long ago.
I'm currently doing Tae Kwon Do, and am at yellow belt.
I want to do Ninjitsu, Jiujitsu, Kenjitsu, Wushu and Boxing, but I doubt I'll ever do all of them.

Do you find it difficult to transition from one to the other. A lot of the lower rank forms are the same, but done differently. The pace of TKD is faster than karate, and the stances are a little different. It took me forever to get used to that and I still use a karate back stance occasionally in TKD. Maybe it's just because I did karate longer.

I'm also trying to train by the Jeet-Kune-Do theory. I've trained in TaeKwonDo, some kungfu and Hapkido. And I've read books about muay-thai, judo, and boxing. However, i wish i could take an actual muay-thai class, because in my opinion, it's one of the best striking styles.

I did judo when I was a kid, a bit of capoera, kickboxing, and TAE KWON DO! I'm almost at blue belt ^^ taekwondo is the best. It's the only fighting sport you don't need your hands so you have them free to hold a gun or a stick with nails in.
