I think Fitness is one of the gayest mass-fads ever. Do a real sport if you want to be all healthy and stuff. |

I want to become somewhat more muscular myself, but I don't want to work out on a regular basis, as it is not any fun, and it takes too much of my precious free time. |
|
I agree working out can make you feel great not just physically but mentally as well. It can really make you feel good. |

Yeah, and if you want to be built like a little bitch. Who wants lean muscle? It's not even noticable. You don't get compliments for having 1% body fat and little match stick arms. To everyone else you just look skinny. You get compliments and look better with huge biceps with giant veins running down you arms. There's nothing better than walking down the street knowing that you are probably stronger and more muscley than evryone else that you can see. Tonnes of people have loads of lean muscle by devoting their lives to some gay team sport and going on a 5 mile run every day, but how many people have 30" upper arms? |

That's what I thought before I first started. Weight training made me a whole new person (which, believe me, is a good thing), I used to be fairly quiet, had low self esteem, and confidence in myself was practically non existant. |

I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was

I've been meaning to get more excersize. I'm 15 and I think i've stopped growing now becasue I have been putting on some weight(fat weight)My diet hasnt changed I just started gaining weight, and its pissing me off. So what Im planning to do now is swim a lot. I heard that swimming will get you into a more lean and healthy physical condition. Should I do this? Also if this works when ive dropped about 15-20 pounds I plan to start weight tranning to gain some muscle. Is a a good idea? |

For me personally weightlifting cannot be any fun. It is just about moving one's arms/legs the same way over and over again. In sports meanwhile it is possible to tackle people, swing a club like a maniac, trip people, etc. |

I've set a goal to have my weight at 165 at least by the end of next year. (my new years resolution) but I really want to hit at least 180 max. |

I just got into fitness about 2 years ago, or so. It started off gradually, just bike-riding, running, sit-ups and push ups every now and then. Now, I've got a free gym downstairs at my job, so I try to get in there from 3-5 times a week. I've dropped from 225 to about 195-200 and replaced a lot of my bodyfat with muscle. I do about 180 crunches (3 sets of 60) and work mostly on my upperbody (3 sets of each). When I go 5 days a week, I'll space out the workouts to only do each muscle set once every other day. I still run and do abs almost everyday, though. I've started slacking over these last few holiday weeks, though, so I'll be hitting it hard again, after the new year. |

Strengthening your muscles, tendons and bones which are all accomplished by lifting is the best thing anybody can do for their body now and throughout your life, without the injuries (if you are careful) accompanied by other kinds of sports. Aerobics is important too but in my opinion destructive if done excessively. I don't think you can have too much muscle tho. (From somebody who tries hard but is genetically not gifted and hormonally not destined to be very muscular.) I've been lifting for about 12 years, I will never quit hopefully. |
|
I'm sixteen and I've been into weightlifting for the past two years. I went from being 135 pounds (when I was in grade 9) to a healthy 160 pounds currently. I feel great - I was born skinny and hated it up until I started working out, because zero body fat meant instant muscle. My dad was the exact same way, and he helps me a lot when I work out. |

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.
This is a thread that i had wished to only contain constructive critisicm, if you wish to ignore the beauty and hidden aspects of weightlifting, then don't put it down. |
