Good thread. Can't believe nobody's replied to this yet...


Well, I'm only 20, but, I still consider myself to be reasonably mature. So, have I got what I wanted?

What I want is a good woman to spend the rest of my life with, and to have a daughter with. I want to be an historian, and write and lecture for a living. I want to know stuff, and continue to know stuff, and know more stuff as time goes on. I want to be reasonably well-off, and able to afford the finer things in life... good food, good wine, nice resteraunts, a good house, etc.

So, have I got what I want yet? No, unfortunately. But I'm only twenty... it'll come with time, I suspect. Or not...

What he said.... But no daughter..... as i stand now.

I've pretty much achieved what I've wanted to so far in my life.
Graduated college. Good job. Got married. Bought a house. Two wonderful kitties (not kids). Getting a dog in the spring.
Now the parents and grandparents are bugging us about having kids. I'm still undecided about that but leaning more toward NO. Every woman in the world doesn't need to be a baby-making machine. I'm content with my animals. Why does no one understand that??

as far as responding to the excellent thread...

no, i haven't accomplished much of what i wanted as an adolescent. i didn't explicitly know what exactly it was i really wanted in life.

only within the last year have i considered myself an "adult", simply because i am coming to realize what i do want out of life, for the first time, in explicit terms.

1. a community of like-minded people capable of honesty, compassion, cooperation, laughter, and living outside the accepted norms.

2. being able to look myself in the mirror without feeling the shame of being a hypocrite.

3. a small home in nature, near a clean stream/river, where i can grow a garden, and enjoy nature with loved ones. if feasible, adopt two or more children and love them as my own flesh, with the help of a partner, and the community in number 1.

4. the ability to express myself artistically in a satisfying way.

5. to never stop learning, and challenging my preconceptions.

so how is my progress on these hopes?

1. i have realized that the people desired are out there, but i have not yet lived and breathed and eaten within such a community for more than brief stints

2. i can normally look in the mirror without crippling guilt and shame.

3. still just a dream

4. slowly, slowly finding release through music and words. though it feels like trying to drain an ocean through a pinprick, instead of the desired tidal wave.

5. i learn more every day.

and i should have added

6. find happiness without NEEDING drugs or alcohol.

my progress on this is minimal, and negatively affects all my other goals.

Yes, she does, and she's nearly as yum as Burns, if I remember correctly. Burns: Brunette Edition..... mmmmm...
Unfortunately she's married, too.

Oh well...

Haha, yep - as Blue correctly states, I DO have a sister (and yes, she's the brunette version), but she's not technicially married YET (1/07).
And she is planning on having kids so maybe that will take the heat of me! Hopefully...
