      Wierd mind thingy...

Are you part of the 98%?

Don't need pen or paper. Just answer as you go. Free will or synaptic wiring? You be the judge. Check out the following exercise, guaranteed to raise an eyebrow. There's no trick or surprise. Just follow these instructions, and answer the questions one at a time and as quickly as you can! Again, as quickly as you can but don't advance until you've done each of them ... really.

Now, arrow down (but not too fast, you might miss something).........

      What is:

      1+5

      2+4

      3+3

      4+2

      5+1

Now repeat saying the number 6 to yourself as fast as you can for 15 seconds. Then scroll down.

QUICK!!! THINK OF A VEGETABLE! !

      Then scroll down.

      Again scroll down.

You're thinking of a carrot, right?

If not, you're among the 2% of the population whose minds are different enough to think of something else. 98% of people will answer with carrot when given this exercise. Freaky, huh?

Send this web page to all your friends so they can see if they are part of the 98% or among the 2% of the population.

Here is the limk the the site http://www.naute.com/puzzles/puzzle19.phtml

At first I saw a mental image of a cabbage but I couldn’t think of what it was called, and the thought 'CARROT!' came into my head

I thought of a potato... lol

I seen about the same thing. But with 'NAME A TOOL!'. People often tended to say 'red hammer'. I think the little math has nothing to do with that. I mean, screwdriver is a to long a word...

My fiance tried it too, and the same thing happened to him. He blurted "Carrot" and then he was like, damn it....He thought that it was cool though.

G'damnit. I said "Tomato!" not realizing that tomato was actually categorized as a fruit.

potatos are tubers, and this trick also works with the number 14. but i think thats because people associate 14 with carat instead of carrot.

I don't know the name of it in English, but its Swedish name has three letters.

I had a complete brain fart at the end and thought "what the hell is a vegetable? That's not a math problem!" then an image of a big green head of broccoli popped into my head. That 98% thing doesn't seem to apply to this (non-representational) sample of the human population, at least. Who originally did the study to come up w/ that stat?

I'm not sure who came up with it, but I’ve found a similar test that boasts the same statistic. (Below)

And another forum discussion on it. I guess that the '98%' is made up.
