This is one of my all time favorite pieces of music : Pachelbel's Canon in D major. I didn't listen to it for half a year, and just recently one night as I went through all my favorite songs, I listened to it again... It was 3am, and I was sitting alone in my room, that was only dimly lit by a small table lamp. The music started and as the song was halfway through, I was no longer sitting in my room. I was sitting on a carriage going through a town of Victorian Era, watching all the people going about their daily lives with smiles on their faces. I kept visiting places like beautiful and sunny parks, cathedrals and buildings, but soon I was no longer able to do it. The song just became... beautiful. My face became numb from crying. Every string stroke and note played caressed my soul and showed me, what true beauty is. I almost couldn't take it. I felt like I didn't deserve it and yet another chord played, making me press my eyelids close even harder with tears flowing down my cheeks. I think it was the most emotional Iv ever been when listening to music. I like all kinds of music, most of my favorite songs are from this century. But I have to say that modern artists have little compared to the old masters. I can't imagine what it must have been like, to only hear this masterpiece once in a life time during that era. I'm saving this for another six months... and then I'll be in heaven again. |
