Ever want to stop understanding people...

I had one of the worst days at work today. A shaky old and ugly-ass cranky woman chewed me out at the register, humiliating and embarrasing me of my previous mistakes as a new worker (but she didn't know that) in front of the line behind her. And she countered my initially well-intentioned remarks as me being a smart-ass. I swear, a part of me was willing to lose my job so I could beat her into a pulp. I didn't care at the time she was old and frail, ugh. Just the things, she said, really triggered a well of anger and self-esteem issues inside of me that I just blew up inside, and had vivid recall of angered memories that call for a desire to justice, or even more, revenge at every bad thing someone did to me. (which inspires me to talk about something else in another thread) It was as if this pressure cooker was cooking inside of me all along, and I knew it was because I was very unhappy for an extremely long time. I have a hard time hurting people back, and so I took it out on the bathroom walls whilst being vulgarly vocal about it. A few coworkers heard me and calmed me down, especially after sharing the similar stuff they deal with.

I try my best to understand other people's sides all the time, unfortunately at the cost of my self-respect, and turning my other cheek too much. I have an anger problem, I feel, it could be causing my depression, I thought recently...

Tell me about it man, I hear ya.

A guy came up to me on friday and said he wanted this sandwitch warmed up in the microwave. Since there was about 10 ppl to serve at once I didn't do it right away he complained saying I "thought you already put it in". After I apologized he continued to complain about it with his attitude.

And another time this other guys complaining it is the slowest "train" in sydney and "fuking hopeless service. And another guy complaining that the price of the batteries is too high and that is was "highway robberey". I have had several people drive off without paying when I wasn't looking, the bastards. Sometimes if I am trying to do something, and someone just wants to buy some chewing gum or something, its really anoyying, and you just want them to go away.

the 2 questions I get asked the most about 25 times a day is, Where is the key to the toliet. And I have to keep telling them the toliet is open, just pull the door outwards. Cause it is not a normal doorhandle so everyone gets confused, The other question is where are the straws? All kinds of idiots come and go.

I was thinking maybe I could print some hand outs saying. You are here marked with an X and straws here...and have a map. And get a big sign at the counter saying toliet Open with an arrow.

overall dont let them get to you they are not worth you stressing or geting angry over.

Sometimes being one of "those people", I apologize on behalf of all of us...

Sorry, guys. We really don't mean to make your lives a living hell...:sweat1:

sounds like you work at a Gas station...key to toilet, batteries, sandwiches...correct me if I'm mistaken. it just fits the description, though. or maybe you're talking about separate jobs.

I work at a local retail drug store. I've always grown up shy, but doing this kind of job is not too bad, because almost every encounter is a chance for a first impression so I don't worry about self-image there. I have to agree thinking about those people is a waste of time...but at the same time, you know how delicious anger can be sometimes?

But, it really doesn't outweigh the light-hearted customers I deal with. I'm just inclined to be pessimistic.

I had one of those hair-pulling, apoplectic episodes working at Winn-Dixie, in the seafood department. Snow crab legs were on sale for $2.99/lb, so we were absolutely swamped. Now, in addition to selling seafood there, we also steamed it for them whilie they shopped, free of charge. So there I was, running my arse off trying to keep up with orders, and doing a damn good job of it, too. I'd weigh up one order, put a load of legs in the steamer as I take onther out, wrap 'em up, and put them on top of the display case so they can be picked up. At some point, while my back was turned preparing a fresh batch to be steamed, some guy came and picked up the wrong order. Naturally, being the only person there at the time, I caught all the fury from the woman who was left with a smaller order than she wanted. I offered to cook her more (a mere eight-minute wait), and knock some off the price besides, but she was intent on being unsatisfied. I didn't get in trouble or anything, but it rankled me hard. Some people are just incapable of peaceful social interactions. Oh well, here's to being an introvert!

I work as a cake decorator and spent hours on a special cake for this lady's bratty kid. The cake turned out awsome and she threw a fit because the shade of pink was not what she invisioned. She screamed at me and told me she would do everything in her power to make sure I lose my job because she hated the cake. I'm oversensative and crumbbled. I could'nt even defend myself, I just ran in the back and cried, only to be chewed out by my manager for overreacting. There is no justice in this world for people with feelings. Sometimes I just want to never leave the house because it seems like everyone I come in contact with is crabby and cruel. Anyways, I feel your pain, I would have never treated you that way, no one deserves that.

Oh believe me, I have no intention at staying at a pathetic minimum wage job. I'm merely exploiting it to fund my schooling and well...get used to dealing with assholes.

Yeah...I went back and cried before, kinda made a ruckus. It was either that or lose my job over commiting violence...it's hard, ya know?

Often we're told that we should let our anger out, because bottling it up inside is bad. But the truth is both are not good. If we bottle it up, we become a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment. If we vent it out, even against inanimate objects like pillows or walls, we're only practicing violence, and it only becomes easier and easier to take it out on something or someone we never thought we could. How long will a pillow satisfy one's rage? How long will that wall be enough? See, these acts only make our anger stronger. We think they make it go away, but it is only a temporary relief. The next time, if you notice, it comes back even stronger than it was before.

A good book that has practical wisdom on dealing with anger is "Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames" if you are interested in dealing with your anger, which the fact you posted the thread indicates you might be. Well I think it's a good book anyways.

May you be able to untie the knots that bind you and find peace.

Yes, I am deviating from my older philosophy of "attack out of skill, not anger"

I read that book, but I found it superficial for some reason, it was most likely my state of mind while doing it. It's not that I'm angry at people, I'm not really with a bad temper. It doesn't FEEL like anger, but it's my best way of describing it. It's fatigue and guilt that's the real issue. But I think so much about what I feel guilty about things in my life that when people interrupt rudely, I only explode, just knowing that I'm not supposed to be angry, but I can't stand it. I've been beating myself up as a service to other people, and I wasn't done, I guess. It's not anger as much as it is confusion and pain.

I read some of Thich Nhat Hanh's stuff, I think his best book was Peace Is Every Step. I also tried his contemplative movement video, after that, I was so enlightened I could levitate...not, but it was nice and soothing.

AirRick101, I'm sorry that didn't happen but I really like your wording!
