Let me augment the paranoia bit.
- There's people that will stop at nothing to make sure they don't like any of that person's posts, even if there's things they agree with.
- Then there's people who make a post, and then someone makes a similar post, and the latter gets liked despite of the fact that both are so identical.
- Then there's the likes where people agree with someone else and creates some invisible banter saying, "This person is right and you suck."
- There there's the likes where a person responds in an insulting way to someone giving a tl;dr post, but they don't want to admit that they're referring to them, and the people liking them is just their little sneaky way of not trying to come off as rude to said tl;dr poster
- Then there's those likes in the picture thread over who's hot or handsome; and there's those "I want to give a like, but damn it, you're going to become too popular if I do so," so the person posting the pictures is wondering if anyone cares about their looks. Not only that, if a person becomes assertive by saying some girl is hot, those same guys who gave a creep-like on their photo suddenly get their competitive streak going and try to dominate over that guy being flirtatious.
- Then there's those people who just want to be special and only give likes to those few little people they think deserve it
- There's people who become intimidated by a person's totality of likes, and probably have silent rage and pretend to talk to that person asking, "You think you're so special huh!?!?!"
- Then there's the likes where some guy/girl makes response in a debate, and that people agreeing with him suddenly makes his/her post accurate and right in every way. It's like collecting little minions for ego-boosting. "Hey, these people agree with me, I must be doing something right....right?"
- Then there's the likes where people can't really troll you, but what the person said is close enough to degrading your self-esteem
- Then there's people who say "I don't care about the likes," even though deep down they're hugging their pillow waiting for someone to like it
- Then there's people who constantly close and open their laptop/computer and refresh the control panel to hopefully see a red notification
- Then there's the likes where you feel "OOOOOh, who liked me this time!!?!?" but then we see we get a like by "Oh...him..pfffffft."
- Then there's people who say "You're ruining the points system of DV with so many likes"
- Then there's people who become passive-aggressive with those with a lot of likes, go on a chat, and say, "No one likes you."
- Then there's people who really feel that "I'm not going to like you, maybe you'll see how it feels to not be appreciated!"
Yes, there's actually rudiments behind this, yes, you can even make psychological analysis through this. I could make a damn novel out of this.
