Ya same. Seeing as all emotional pain is self inflicted I fail to see where they got the idea from, unless there is some chemical in our brain which manages to respond to an outside stimulus and make us feel emotions which somehow has a constant rate of reaction and always lasts for twelve minutes Who knows?

Hmm. I would interpret it in this way.

That the actual amount of time we felt pain is only 12 minutes long if something unpleasant happened to us. Let's say if we get a scolding and we immediately felt down without further thoughts or overcomplicating it. But after 12 minutes had passed, the pain will fade but we kept it with us by continuing thinking about it.

That sounds more reasonable, but I'm not even going to believe that until I see a study. When I googled it (yeah, that's my source, got a problem?) I found no links to studies, only forums and Yahoo! Answers with people asking if it's true, and responders asserting that it's true or not based on their personal experiences. So I conclude it's a myth for now.

I just remembered that about a year ago I received a chain e-mail from my grandmother listing about 20 'cool facts'. I proceeded to look up every one to see if it was legitimate or not, and about 80% turned out to be myths. I composed an e-mail that explained why each one was false, but decided against sending it because I thought it might come across as cold to my grandmother. I wish I'd kept the draft though. Maybe I'll do something like that again and post it here, or start a new myths thread.

But the question is "why is the pain that you talk about different?". Surely the chemicals which cause the experience of grief are no different for the first 12 minutes then the ones afterwards.

It's probably more of a personal belief than a fact.

A way to remind myself for me that I no longer need to submerge myself in this misery since the supposedly "pain effective" time is over.

I would think there's no difference but I know no science and I shall speak no science.

I am thinking after 12 minutes, the pain that stayed on is caused by your own constant reminder of it and not directly caused by the impact it received.

This thread could use a revival. Night vision goggles show images in a green light, because eyes can distinguish more shades of green than any other color.

Our eyes cannot focus well on the colour blue due to its high frequency. Often looking at a blue led for example will make your eyes tired and you will see a little glare around it.

I like blue.

But you meant blue screen? Or anything that's blue like the sky and seas too?

The sky and the sea also have it slightly but you dont really notice it, only things like lights or computer screens or blue suns.

So that's why people get all disoriented when they see blue screens of death....
