This picture It looks like a Salvador Dali painting down the bottom. Extremely cool.
Those lines must be from water rushing through there over millions of years, looks incredible.

There were a whole bunch of tadpole shrimp at the Wave. Plus I discovered clam shrimp for the first time.

That's so cool two shadows!

There's a mini path that leads to a ledge enclosed by trees with a great view of the river. One of my favorite spots. EDIT: This isn't is, actually, but I'm too lazy to add the other photo.

They're in the order Hemiptera if that helps. I saw these all the time in North Carolina but I never looked up the species.

Yeah, I think they're the Boxelder bugs that Tommo was talking about. There were hundreds of them!

Edit: Nope! Nevermind, they're called Jadera bugs. I googled "Jadera" and there's a picture that looks almost exactly like the one I took-- a pile of therm swarming a tree.

It could be nymphs of either based on your picture. Boxelder also congregate on trees like that.

They remind me of trilobites.

Yeah, according to Wikipedia they are considered "living fossils" and go back all the way to the Triassic. Pretty cool.

Also it's so amazing that they live their whole life cycle in those desert puddles and their eggs can lay dried and dormant for years.

There was a crazy lightning storm here the other night:

That red in the sky may look like haze from the vehicle tail lights, but that part of the sky was actually bright red. The sun was setting behind me, and the upper-level of the cloud cover left a glowing red hole in the sky. I wish I would have gotten some more lightning strikes in the picture, though. It was really going off!

True. Come to think of it, I think that's the first time I've ever actually photographed lightning before.

My buddy's serious, might-as-well-call-it-industrial-strength bike rack, from our ride today. Thunder/lightning storms came overhead, so we never got to swim at the springs, when we got there, but we got in a good 10 miles in the rain. Lol.
