Thread: Annoying neighbor, any advice?

My retarded neighbor (literally, i think) is really starting to annoy me and the rest of my family. He complains about my dog barking in the backyard and has called the pound and the police about 3 times. But here's the thing, we decided to spy on him from upstairs to see what was really going on. Once we heard my dog barking, we looked outside the window, and we see him literally flashing a flashlight on and off right at his face. Tell me, WTF is a dog supposed to do when 1) he doesn't know you, and 2) your flashing a light on his face?

Second incident is almost every time he takes out the trash, my dog would bark once or twice and stop because he's alert (that's what dogs do, they bark to alert their pack). Then my neighbor would yell "SHUT UP" really loud. My dog barks again. "SHUT UP!" He barks again. I'm sorry, but if you have any common sense, you wouldn't be talking to a dog telling him to shut up especially if you wanted him to shut up.

Third incident not relating to my dog, was that he called the cops on us when we were watching a movie after 10 P.M. in MY ROOM with the WINDOWS CLOSED. The cop said he was complaining that we were "laughing too loud". Really?

This neighbor has not once come to our house and ask us politely to take our dog in everytime he takes out the trash, or to take him in before 10 PM. Not once. All he does is yell or call the cops, and lately it's been pissing the hell out of me. I was thinking about filing a civil court law against him, if that's possible?

Catch the flashlight thing on tape and have your Dad talk to him about the garbage day dilemma. If he takes the trash out at a regular time, then you can bring your dog in so the jackass can take the garbage out without having to freak out about the dog. If he continues pestering you guys after that, then consider legal action. It's always a good idea to catch things on tape unless he counter-sues your claim and you guys get screwed over because he comes off as more beleive in court. It's pretty hard to deny video evidence so I'd advise getting that before even thinking about going to court, just to be on the safe side.

Burn his place of residence. And his family. You should try talking to him. Explain that dogs bark because they are alert to changes. Explain that dogs, like humans, do not like it when strange men shine lights at their face. Tell him that if he keeps acting like a pissing retard, you will file a harassment suit (I think you can get away with that, but I'm not a lawyer, so don't take my word on it).

Make your respective neighbor come to your living room. Tell him you wanna speak with him about things that happened. Get him sitting on a chair! IT IS YOUR MOMENT, DUDE! Bind him to the chair and make him listen all day Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers!
If he resists, call the ambulance...he is really retarded.
If he threats you to stop it, saying that he will kill you, call the cops. Claim he is a criminal.
If he doesn't get to the hospital he would sure get to jail!

Make sure you record him doing the flashlight thing before you confront him about it otherwise you'll miss your chance to gather some evidence.

Just talk to him. The next time there is a problem (something like cops being called) knock on his door and confront him. Ask him what the issue is. Put him on the spot. Be polite but firm and confident that you are not doing anything wrong. Passive aggressive people do not like confrontation and will cower away from you even if you are being respectful. Assert your dominance and the whole thing will blow over.

Poison ivy.
Obtain large quantities of poison ivy and plant it all over his fence line.
Then obtain a kitty, and a high powered microphone. Set the microphone at his window. When you hear him call the police, replace your dog with the kitty.
When the police show up act annoyed and completely unsurprised. Refer to him as "that crazy guy".
It usually helps in these situations if you project saliva towards him.

If there is an honest question over whether or not this man is genuinely retarded, chances are any children he has will share similar qualities and such an act would not be worth the revenge.

Hahaha you guys are more evil than I am. But yeah, I'm not sure whether this guy is really is retarded or not. He lives with his dad and he seems like he's well over the age of 35, maybe even 40. He doesn't drive either and has no car, and his voice is annoying as #$%*. I'm not being mean, I'm just telling the truth.

Yesterday he threatened to call the cops on my entire family, not just immediate family but my cousins and uncles and aunts for shooting illegal fireworks. Okay, I understand that their illegal, but the thing is, our ENTIRE block was shooting illegal fireworks, even the neighbor to the next of him. I'm starting to think he's racist, because his neighbor next to him also has a dog who barks nonstop, and not once have I seen him call the cops on them. My neighbor across the street and on the opposite side love my dog and are friendly to us as well.

Anyways I have considered video taping it next time it happens. This morning he shook his trash like a madman at the dog and yelled "BRING HIM IN AND STOP LOOKING". Seriously I've had it with that guy. I should've just shot a mortar round inside his house last night. Or maybe roman candles.

To be honest, your best bet is to just ignore it. Sometimes people who are generally angry because of circumstances in their own life will try to spread the negative energy around in order to feel better themselves. The best way to not allow him to do that is to just not get upset about it. (or in other words, don't accept the negative energy that they try to pass on to you)

Are your parents bothered by it as well? If they are, they should go and have a talk with the man's father about it and find out what the real source of the problem is and if anything can be done about it. Basically the same advice from my previous post except go directly to the head of the household.

Calling the police on you for shooting fireworks? I can totally imagine your neighbor.

That's odd. We have a neighbor whose dog barks at me when I take out the trash as well as barks at night. I've called animal control and the cops on him a few times but nothing's been done. How can I get my neighbor to control his dog?

Anyone who thinks that calling the police is an appropriate response to a barking dog is a raging dick, so...stop being a dick? That might solve your problem. (if in fact, you were serious)
