      I like history...

Although American history is a bit bland, after it's been drilled into our heads every other year for 12 years, and then more in college. We spend 6 years on 200 years of American history, and then the other 6 on 10,000 years + of WORLD history. No wonder we are terrible at knowing how other nation's work.

Heck, I bet half of American students couldn't even name all 50 states on a map! That's sad, really. I don't even WANT to know how many can locate the US on a world map, let alone name more than 10 countries.

Sooooo true! Ive seen a lot of videos that show evidence to that on the net...And they hurt me deep inside. In my time at school and college i felt like our history was merely an accident in the teachers plan and nothing more.

I think its awesome to know where all the countries are located on the world map but that's just me and im a terrible geek anyway!

I truly hate history class. It bores me. I'd rather write a huge essay, personally, since I find writing more fun. Not everythings so set in stone, and you get to back up your answers.

Of course it doesn't help that I dislike my history teacher.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. I have a DJ entry to add, but I can't F'ing copy/paste from the shitty Android Notepad application on here... ..I guess I'll have to re-type it once I get back home. ...tried everything. :-(

I will search for a note-taking application which allows for a "select all, copy/paste" function.

I read all the rants that I missed today. Hugs to you all!

I'm listless. I ate too much today, and now I don't have energy that I wish I had.

      Ah well.

College history is a lot more essay-based and less "this specific date, NOW!" Literally (and I mean it in the literal sense, not "figuratively, as most people intend) all of my history exams are essay exams.

It gets better for history! (Although I've always been a maphead, I love geography and history and whatnot... so I may not be the best source for "history gets better." But I can try, can't I? Biased history major is biased.)

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh. . . people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over HERE in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian Countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.

If I'm in your neck of the woods one day would you meet me IRL?
I think you'd be an awesome person.

I'm so fucking depressed. I've had one of those realisations again that literally no one gives a fuck about me. I have no one.
I'm going no where and don't know what the fuck to do.

Just debated with some folks during my Dutch lessons. It's really astonishing how arrogant and stupid some people are. The statement was 'headkerchiefs should be forbidden'. The ones muslims wear. I was against it, and I had way better arguments. They seriously said 'I agree with this statement, because wearing them can annoy people, and those muslims form a threat to us by coming here'. Like... you serious? It should be forbidden because it annoys people? Since when do we have the right to forbid things because it can annoy people? If we were to do that we would be no better than a dictatorship.
And muslims form a threat to us by coming here? They take on the jobs in the cleaning sector, in factories etc. because we don't want to do such dirty jobs. And now they are a threat? When I asked them why they were a threat they said that it was in the Koran that they have to blow buildings up and destroy capitalism. I've heard stupid things, but that's the worst. When I replied that was absolute nonsense, they said that I was brainwashed etc, and not open for reason.
Since we are on DV, the people here will be clever enough to understand that it's nonsense. But how can people be this mindblowingly racistic, arrogant, stupid and blind? If there is a god, I could only wish for him to destroy those types of humans. Leave his precious earth to those who can handle it and can live together in peace. Then again, whether he excists or not, he won't. If he would excist, humanity would have been destroyed long ago. So let us hope that we get to live in a decent world one day.
Certain parts of humanity just deserve to live in some dictatorship, or rot away and die a painful death without any help, but justice isn't around enough for stuff like that. And perhaps I should stop making statements like this. If I don't, I will have a few secret agencies to hide from.

Hmm. Based on that post and your previous "wall of text," I'd say you're giving to much attention to the negative aspects of our world. A guy I work with does this. He's a smart guy and is very aware of the world as a hole. He understands how life "works," and he's more than capable of capable of creating a fantastic life for himself. Yet, he's works on a manufacturing line every day (and hates it), complains constantly about the corruption and hostility in our world, mentions every every person "related" to him that dies (IE, distant cousin's co-worker's ex-wife's daughter), etc... point is, he puts too much energy into contemplating the negatives rather than putting that energy into cultivating the positive emotions.

By being aware of and focusing on all the negative things in life, you aren't helping. In fact, you're just adding to the problem. As I mentioned before in this thread, the idea isn't to push those negative parts of the world under a blanket and hope they go away. But holding on to each little bit of negativity as if it's your own child will destroy you. As you may have figured out, I work in a factory (I'm a quality auditor). Most of the people do no want to be there, and there is a lot of negativity looming overhead. I could easily have been sucked in (and actually, I have been). But I choose to stay positive and atempt enjoy every second I spend, regardless of the circumstances.

I like to think that over the year I've been in this department, the overall atmosphere has improved significantly. I don't mean this as boasting or something silly, but to show how powerful a positive mind and attitude really is. Just ONE person with the right mindset can help steer several others in the right direction. An easy example: I go to school part time because I was working on the manufacturing line and decided I don't like it and want to change. Since moving to this department and casually mentioning this to a few people, 3 of them are now also going to school part time in hopes of advancing off the production line.

I agree. Always being negative is a terrible thing. But I felt like the truth had to be said, so I said it. Don't worry, I'm not the type that walks around depressively and only sees negative things, it's just that I do notice them, and I truly disgust of most of them. But it's impossible to change such things on your own, so the best we can do is live our own lives in a good way and do our best to help others while we're at it. Definitely a good point you made here

Yea. I was actually thinking as I finished up that post, "maybe this guy's just having a bad day, and this post is completely unnecessary?"

But eh, I like sharing the advice I've been given regardless.

My brain is buzzing. -.-" So hung over... and this weed helps with the nausea little bit but overall it's just making me exhausted, probably because I didn't get much sleep, and what I did get was low-quality. I'm having to read things over a few times to even start being able to comprehend them. Oh well....
