Thread: Complete Beginner

Hey, I am new to the topic of Lucid dreaming. All I know is basically Lucid Dreaming is you really knowing that you're in the dream, and that you can control stuff around you.

Anyways, I am a complete beginner, and do not know where I should start. I've heard that remembering your old dreams is good, so I try to do that. Can anyone maybe give me a starting point to learn about how to lucid dream? How exactly do you do it? I hope I can get a tutor soon ( i know I have to wait 2 weeks).

first to become "lucid" you must realize you're in a dream state... in other words you need to be (i think) semi-concious, and able to recognize something while dreaming. (This something should be proof that you really are dreaming). (this is why a dream journal helps, since you can recognize patterns in your dream from the past to find hints on what to look for to know you're dreaming in the future)

once you can do that you should realize that you can't be hurt and have the power to do anything (this part confuses me, since i ussualy wander off in my dream (ex: omg im frozen in ice i must be dreaming... oh hey sweet the sky is green, that pwns). Then you should be able to control things by knowing you're dreaming, in other words fly and own ppl you hate in 1 hit. If you seem to find yourself in trouble (or about to wake up) then you can spin your dream (which confuses me again). When you dream spin, i think (assuming) you're in the 1st person view (which isn't allways the case) you spin around and you should find yourself in a new place.

thats my view from what i've read. im confused though, since i can become lucid, but once im lucid i tend to wake myself up or never remain in control, accept for once i felt my body becoming super heavy and i tryed to push myself up off some ice then i woke up. (yeah i have to wait 2 weeks also to get a tutor, should be changed to 1 )

"Complete Beginner" u make that sound like a bad thing. sometimes once u know lucid dreaming is real well then u might have one like the following night. or not. well u can do reality checks. thats a term in which certain things happen in a dream that doesnt happen in reality hint reality checks. ill list some.

1. look at words twice and see if they change(i whould try and look 2 times at the same thing like a digtial wacth)
2. i havent really tryed this but if u hold ur nose in a dream u can still breath though it.
3. havent tryed this one ethier but in a dream u can poke ur finger though ur hand.

Hey there Pritom! Is there any particular story behind your name? I'm usually curious about those kinds of things.

Anyway, as was probably mentioned, a lucid dream is simply one where you know you're dreaming, nothing more. The amount of control you have just depends on your level of lucidity (low, medium, or high). Anyway, as a starter I'd advice checking out the tutorials. The MILD technique is a good starting place, but if one technique isn't working, stick with it for at least a week and then give something else a try. And don't get frustrated if it doesn't seem to be working at first. Some people do have their first LD the night after hearing about it, but others, such as myself, take longer. It was three weeks before my first, but trust me when I say it's worth it!

I'm glad you took a look at the adoption guidelines. We're always getting ppl who post that they want to be adopted and then leave a day or two later. At any rate, the adoption program is more for formailty than anything else. We're not going to forbid you from personal contact with any other member here if you haven't been here for two weeks; on the contrary, we like to encourage people to ask any questions they may have.
