      Getting excited?

The last two lucid dreams I have had, waay before coming here and starting again, I didn't achieve much. As soon as they became lucid my heart starts to race and I get excited. Then it causes me to wake up and get frightened. How can I calm down so it won't happen when I LD again?

Oddly enough it's pretty random for me. Sometimes I wake up even now, even though lucid dreaming is not new to me, while sometimes I'm able to stay lucid for what seems to be 15 or even 20 minutes. I guess it depends on the phase of sleep they occur in. When you happen to catch a lucid dream in the morning, when you're already fully rested, you're more likely to lose it.

Furthermore, in my opinion the sensation of being awake in the dream plane is just something that needs some getting used to. There are some methods to make the dreamworld more stable (for example, concentrating on looking at your hand, shouting "Clarity!" etc.) but there's no escaping losing lucid dreams when you're just starting out. It's all part of your development as a conscious dreamer. After all, you need to know failure in order to know success.

Thank you! I guess it's all getting used to it.

Just relive those dreams while awake. Do a reality check. Then, visualize yourself calmly looking around, saying quietly, "This is a dream." Slowly walk around touching things in the dream, all the while saying, "this is a dream." Do this visualization when you wake up, and as you are falling asleep.

Thanks! It happens right after I do a reality check so I guess taking it slow is the best way to not snap out.

Astral what I like to do is use less dramatic reality checks when I RC the first time in the dream. Ask yourself did I wake up yet this morning? then take a pause and calmly do a physical reality check like sticking your finger through your hand. You should also search for some stabalization techniques. These help you extend dream time. Trust me even minimal stabalization helps.

Also do you live in Canada?
