      Am I Attaining Lucidity Correctly?

I have been trying to have a lucid dream for about 4 nights now all with similar results. I have read up on a lot of techniques and thought the WILD technique was best. I have gotten too excited to actually fall asleep and wake up 5-7 hours later, so I try to do the WILD technique right as I am going to sleep for the first time of the night. I lay down in a very comfortable and relaxed position for about 30-45 minutes and then I can feel sleep paralysis start to happen. My body becomes numb and feels "heavy". Also, there is a low buzzing noise i continue to hear. Then I start to get a fast pulse rate and my eyes start to move very quickly like I am in REM sleep. I also become very hot and feel the need to remove my sheets to cool off. Each night it has become hotter and my pulse increases. It becomes so intense i force my self to open my eyes and the entire WILD is ruined. Is the eye movement, increased pulse rate, and heat normal? and should I force myself to fall asleep for 5-7 hours then try to WILD into a lucid dream? Lastly, am I doing anything wrong? Thank you for reading, sorry for such a long post. Anything will be of help.

      Thanks.

Alright, typically, the WILD method is combined with the WBTB (wake back to bed). The best results are had when a person gets 5-6 hours or so of sleep first...trying to WILD without any sleep is usually quite unsatisfactory. "twitchy eyes" are normal...unsure about the pulse and temperature, though. You're inducing SP correctly, and you are experiencing HH, which is a very good sign. I would say to try sleeping ahead of time first...see if that clears things up for you.

      Good luck!

Thanks for such a quick reply. I will try going to bed earlier tonight and set my alarm for 3 or 4 in the morning. Also, last night I experienced a very vivid yet strange dream. I haven't had a dream recall in a very long time and this was a good sign. Hopefully tonight after 5 or 6 hours of sleep I will be able to quickly induce a lucid dream. After the 5 or 6 hours what is a good time to stay awake for? and what to do during that time period until i return to bed?

Ah, okay. It's usually a good idea to get up and stretch, etc, for at least a couple minutes to up to an hour. If you'd prefer a nap, you can go for 5 hours after waking up before it starts getting hard to induce a WILD. I would also really recommend building up a solid recall, even for the WILD method. Sounds silly, but keep a dream journal. It's truly surprising how effective it is. You could also try a mantra such as, "I WILL remember my dreams," which you repeat to yourself as you fall asleep.

Try to relax and tell yourself you are in control and simply resist to open your eyes. For a beginner it's generally better to start off with DILDs instead of WILD, since WILD is usually harder for most people. Out of my 26 lucids 2 have been WILDs... And I've been trying to WILD quite a lot. It's easier for some people though, so keep trying.

Oh, I've never even heard of a DILD if it is easier i will definitely try it out. I'll do some reading on it and choose which method I want to do tonight. Thank you very much for the info. very helpful

      Thanks.
