      Thank you!

Hello, My name is Vincent, I'm about 19 years old and I never had a lucid dream (to my recollection) before last night. I stumbled upon your website yesterday and, after reading posts for several hours (approximately three) I attempted a WILD. I was enamored with the concept of achieving a limpid state of mind whilst dreaming. I've always had excellent dream recall (without writing) so I figured I'd give it a shot. I attempted to reach the vague notion I conceived as "sleep paralysis" (which I found rather pleasurable as opposed to disturbing) just so when I attempted a WBTB later that night I would know what to expect. Later that night I achieved lucidity three times (Thanks for the light switch cue ) at very brief intervals (all of them DILD's). Unfortunately I believe I was so excited by the prospect of control it awoke me.
Thus I wish not only to introduce myself but to ask a few questions; Is this a common occurrence among first time oneironauts? Does the power to maintain lucidity slowly grow in the individual? Also, one of my goals was that i asked repeatedly for my subconscious to manifest itself and a sort of demon appeared, it frighted me, should I pursue it in tonight's dreams? In other words, Is it a reasonable expectation to ask this of your mind, has anyone else had luck with such endeavors?
Regardless of my questions, Thank you for an exhilarating first step into the depths of my sub-conscience.
      -Vincent Venatici

Go for it! Just don't try flying or totally reconstructing your environment while looking at it yet.

I can create an environment if I spin. I'm afraid to close my eyes. But I do believe trying to recreate it, such as making your walls dissapear and turning the grass to sand while looking will wake you up.

It`s common for new oneironauts(like me ) to feel excited and get all pumped up because he or she managed to lucid dream, and that sorta feeling kills your dream.

For the stability, try rubbing your hands while in the dream. Your LDs get longer and more stable with time.

As for the demon... i can`t help, i don`t understand much about this part... but my guess is that the demon probably was your dream guide. It`s just a guess really.

      By the way, welcome

Dude, judging by that logic, my DG is Neytiri! AWESOME!

      Just for kicks:

And you can tell I'm obsessed with the movie cause I instinctively shapeshift into the guy here. Without even thinking about it. Autosuggestion, I think it's called.

So here's me with my DG! :p

      Spoiler for HUGE PICTURE:

Why would I be afraid of my dream guide though? One of my theories was that this thing only appeared in the last dream and was fleeing because my lucidity was fleeing as well, it could have been a manifestation of my desire for clarity escaping. I'll have to do some research on dream guides, thanks for the hint

Well, I've seen that chick three more times last night. Three different dreams.

I am fully pleased with my DG!
