How Do You Record Yor Dreams?

I'm just starting out on attaining LD's and I'm beginning with improving my dream recall. I awake several times throughout the night so the opportunity to record my dreams isn't a problem. I am however undecided what medium to use.

I've worked in IT all my working life and rarely use a pen these days so hand writing is rather alien to me. I don't really want to have the laptop setup by my bedside so the other option is dictaphone (or similar device). The problem with the later choice is that at some point I'll need to revisit the recording and transfer to text (necessary for spotting dream signs and general dream familiarity).

I'd be interested to know how others record their dreams and what pros\cons they've encountered with their chosen medium.

      Ho Pauldack,

I do write all mine down in a dream journal by hand, but I also type longer ones, or ones that bring up a lot of information or feelings, into the computer afterwards, and save them online on an old closed yahoogroups list that I used to have (you could open one just for that purpose by listing it as an invite only list), so if my computer crashes or gets lightning struck, I still have them available. I find that the process of typing them in often brings up a lot of material that I forgot when I wrote them out by hand, so it's a good thing! Typing also seems to open up the interpretation process for me, though I don't quite know why. Sharing them does that as well.

You can get light pens to write in the dark with. I know the IASD's bookstore has those available at their website.

Other than those and voice recorders, I don't have any new ideas.

I use a voice recorder, and then write them down on my computer.
      Main LD goals:
      - Futuristic/sci-fi/cyberpunk big city
      - Fantasy role-playing game
      - Flight and other super powers
      - Use lucid dreaming as a study-aid
      - Personal development, inner peace etc

      KB's Method

I have a little black book that I write it in, but it isn't very detailed and I tend to only write down my most vivid ones. Also, I have a nosy sister so I don't feel comfortable enough to write all of them down. She is only ten and I think some of my dreams would scar her for life... which would be somewhat funny.

I think I'm gonna opt for voice recorder then playback and type into PC later. I've got a small MP3 player that can also record voice so and I'll be able to use that and take it to work to type onto Pc at lunchtime.

      I'm taking this option because:

      • It should be a lot quicker to simply record my words than using a keyboard in the early hours of the morning
      • I'll be able to do it without opening my eyes and minimal body movement which should greatly improve recall.
      • Privacy - I share kb_blogger's concerns about others reading anything I write down.
      • If my journal is on the PC then I'll be able to do things with it a a later date. I'm a software developer and I'll probably write a journal app at some point.
I'll give it a go tonight and see how it goes but it's definitely looking the best option for me.

Hmm, I can't decide, because at the moment it's a mix between option 2, 3 and 4 for me. I have my laptop by my bedside and I use it to record my voice and sometimes I do convert it to text later, but sometimes I don't.

No joy, could barely recall a few dream fragments, I think I'm overtired. I'll try again after a couple of night of good sleep.

I said laptop by my bedside, but after reading the other choices I should have chosen voice recorder - convert it to text later. I just use my laptop as a voice recorder and then type it up when I get time. I've stopped typing them up recently though as it take awhile.

I use a combination of the first two. If I only remember a fragment or two, I'll go to my computer across the house. If I have a few dreams, I'll write them down in a spiral notebook by my bed and later type them up in detail on DV.

      Eureka

I have found this site that is an online diary and you can put your stuff public or private. It doesn't really get a lot of traffic so no problem there and it's free... "my-diary.org" is the url. Also I think DV has a specific thread for private dream journals. My problem is I can only get to a computer three of seven days and I don't have any recording device. Yet
