Just thought I'd add some of my thoughts. Damascus is no doubt correct about the concentration thing and you might have more chance if you save the concentration for when you about to drop off. However I don't think the concentration in itself is wasted energy. In my experience a lot of these techniques don't always work as you expect. Don't be surprised if you find yourself dreaming of trying to do a WILD - it used to happen to me a lot.

I'd also say the wake up back to bed technique is great. If you are lucky you will find that the imagery you get is much more powerful when you go back to bed after the break. If find staying up for about 60 mins and getting fully awake is best.
