      My first lucid dream :)

To my knowledge this is my first lucid dream. I very rarely recall any of my dreams. Because it was the weekend I often wake up around 7 just to fall back to sleep again until I wake up on the next hour. I believe this may have helped me.

Even if my ability to recall a dream is very weak I still do reality checks at random times like while I am at school waiting. I often check my hand. Normally my dreams always never shown my body, it kinda act like a first person shooter type of game without the shooting. I almost never look (or at least notice) my hands in my dreams because of that.

I been doing the checks for like two months now but I never really done everything I should been doing like writing my dreams down because I am a busy guy.

Anyway as for the dream itself. I was in a white room with a carpet and it was freezing cold (well, I have the sense that it should have been cold) I think my dream had a story behind of it but I look at my hands and notice that the skin have huge cracks in them. I thought to myself "is this a dream/am I dreaming?" and I became somewhat lucid to the point where I can do stuff at will. (Kinda feel odd, kinda like I suggesting my body to do the stuff and not doing them myself.) Kinda odd that I did not wake up but I normally a easy going person and I been waiting two months for this and have been reading that people wake up after the first lucid dream because they become too exited about it.

First thing I try to do is fly of course, I been having this as a goal for a long time. I try doing that jumping thing where you try to go higher each time but oddly I only jump to my normal limit. Kinda odd but on my 3rd or 4th jump it seem like I was wearing weights but I became normal again after the next three jumps. I don't clearly remember this part but I believe I did open a door...Just seem like I got outside somehow. The place was frozen and different. There was about 30 people just standing at random spots and I think a few of them was talking. I could have not care less about them at this point as I try jumping a few times. I thought being inside a building could have scare me from flying but even outside I fail to do so.

I look over to a cliff (It was only like two-three story high?) and notice a lake somewhat frozen over. I was pretty sure that I was dreaming and I wanted to remember this. I heard from somewhere (on this site maybe?) That you can force yourself awake and have a better chance of recalling the dream. I wanted to prove to myself that I was dreaming and kinda have fun doing it at the same time. I stand backwards from the cliff and just jump into the lake landing on my back. I woke up as soon I hit the water.

That was fun but I hoping next time I will be able to do something.

I know there is a Lucid Experiences Board but seeing how this was my first time I was hoping to get some tips or have someone tell me what I should have done or what I have done wrong. I kinda have a feeling that I killed myself too early because the dream itself only seem like five mins.

Congrats on your first lucid! Even more impressive is that you didn't wake up from it right away. I wouldn't worry too much about dream control for now; it will come naturally as you keep practicing. A tip for flying: If you've ever flown in non-lucid dreams, think of how you did it then and try to mimic the feeling when you become lucid. For me, jumping off of a high place or getting someone to give me a boost makes flying easier.

However, I regret to inform you that you have been doing something terribly, terribly wrong. I can't stress enough how important it is that you KEEP A DREAM JOURNAL. Seriously. Will. not. budge. on. this. Chances are you've already had several lucid dreams before this one, but have forgotten them. Keeping a dream journal is relatively simple, and it will improve your dream recall dramatically. While you may have a few LDs this way, you can have so many more if you can remember more dreams. Not only will you be more likely to remember any lucid dreams you do have, you will become more familiar with your typical dream, meaning that you'll be more likely to recognize when you're dreaming and you'll have even more LDs. Besides, just remembering dreams is rewarding in itself. If you don't want to take the time to write down every minute detail of every dream you have, you can just write down the main points of what happened, what stood out to you, etc. I know it can be a pain, but it really is worth the effort if you're serious about LDing.[/rant]

Anyways, aside from that HUGE detail, you seem to be doing everything right. Read the tutorials, experiment with different techniques, and... Did I mention you should start keeping a dream journal?

I know I really should have one.

I can't use my computer...I never use it in the morning because I only have one hour before school. >.< I guess writing down the main points won't take that long. As soon I woke up in that dream I jump out of bed and grab a folded sheet of paper and wrote:

      room
      hands cracks
      door?
      cold place
      icy lake
      can't fly
      people
      die

Then I ate breakfast thinking easily on that dream then cut on the computer and type it down after I made a forum account.

Of course when writing in a real dream journal I will have more room for details...I guess I will do it. I keep hearing that it a biggy and needed. I will copy everything from my first post into a notebook once I find one somewhere around my house.

Good good. You can always fill in more details after school if you run out of time. You might want to wake up 15 minutes earlier to recall dreams and/or train yourself to wake up in the night to write then down. As a side note, it's much easier to dream if you have excess sleeping time.

Oh, and also, you said you jumped off a cliff into water? i.e. you went cliff diving? The basic April lucid task of the month is to go diving; I'm pretty sure this counts.

Yea, I saw that. Not sure if it really count or not because as soon I hit the water I woke up. (Or at least all I can recall)

I think diving is the act of going underwater not just hitting it. I never had that feeling of swimming.

I have never had an actual lucid dream usually my dreams are like i just believe i can run superfast and that it mustn't hurt. Idk my reality checks are terrible and i forgot to do them all the time. Like if i see a plane flying i pinch myself and ask is this real. But in dreams i just don't think it like that more like, wtf? who am i, who is that, etc... It's so annoying especially when instantly when i woke up i lay down in the exact same position and try to think reverse what did i do before waking up. I've recovered 2 dreams like this and i get rem dreams when i listen binanular music or somethn'
