Its best to have a steady sleep schedule, going to bed at the same time you usually do, and waking up at the same time you usually do, getting at least 8 hours of sleep.
There is an exeption though, the CAT (cycle adjustment technique) messes with your sleep cycle to induce a lucid dream. I think you can find this technique in the tuturial section.
Have a routine, because then you will start to understand when REM happens.
I ussualy go to bed around 11:30 every night, don't change up your times unless you're praticing CAT.
Thisthisthis. Do it!
You might also want to go to bed 15 minutes earlier, if you are considering doing wake-back-to-beds (basically, after around six hours of sleep, you wake for fifteen minutes, focus on dream recall and reality checking, and go back to bed. It will be much more likely that you remember/become lucid in your next dream).
Disregard the CAT stuff. Nobody uses it, and it seems like it'd do more harm than good. Wake-back-to-bed is safe, reliable, and widely used because of it.
I would say its about your melatonin cycle which having a regular sleep pattern helps to stabilize.
"although circadian rhythms tend to be synchronized with cycles of light and dark, other factors - such as ambient temperature, meal times, napping schedule and duration, stress and exercise - can influence the timing as well."

in my experience going to bed earlier than normal helps a lot.
CAT sleep seems reliable, but unhealthy, from what i've heard of it. It sounds like the way I normally sleep. The way it works for me is...sometimes i don't get much sleep sometimes i get a lot and thus i alternate between having crazy vivid lucid dreams and having no dreams. It's a cycle every week. The times i get a lot of sleep will throw me into deep REM periods (thus the lucid vivid dreams.) However...I'd advise you for your health to NOT do this....
